KSL TV coverage

Now, I watch KSL, and visit KSL.com alot and I have a serious beef with Rod Zundel. He calls Charles Abouo AB-WHOA. Seriously! :roll:



His name according to everyone else is ABOO-OH. Get it right Rod.

Go easy on Rod. He's only been in the market a decade and this is only Abouo's third year in the program. Oh wait, he is awful. In fact the only sports caster at KSL who is any good is Wrubbel.

Actually, Rod says it right. Charles himself says it's ab-wo...but is fine with the fact that everyone is just going to say it the other way. I think Rod did an interview where Charles told him the real way to say it, and I've also heard Charles say it. So YOU get it right! ;)

Correct you are. I have heard a few interviews with Charles, and that IS how he pronounces it. Unless you question the way someone says his own name, we should all start saying it the right way. ;)

I'm going to stick with they way Wrubbel says it, the way it's listed in the media guide and continue thinking Zundel is a poor sportscaster.

I'm sorry, but the way Abouo himself says it and the way Rod says it are not the same.

IDK, hearing Abouo himself say it's "not aboo-oh" sounded pretty definitive to me. To dislike Zundel is fine, but when he's right he's right...

Zundel puts too much emphasis on the "Ab" part of the name, Wrubell adds an extra syllable. It's a tough name to say unless you speak the native language (a lot like Harvey Unga's).

They are both wrong. It's not Aboo-oh or Ab-whoa...



It's Ab/silent-ish U/oh



The funny thing is Zundel thinks he is right, and is driving the point home.

But it is not AB-woah, and that is how Zundel says it. It's much closer to A-boo-oh than it is to AB-woah.

Aboo-whoa is actually the closest we can get as non-speakers. So - in essence - they are both right, and both wrong. It is just funny cause Wrubell doesn't seem to care, and Zundel can't talk about Y sports without talking about how he - and only he - is correct on Charles' name.

And for the record, I am going to start calling him "Charles Booyeah!" I find the pronunciation to be more fitting, and if I were him, I would go by it.

At least it hasn't been "Charles Ab--ooh he gave up another turnover!" recently.
