Got free Saturday or Monday evening and live near Provo?

Some of you know myself and a few partners have decided to make the LDS band NaDrua, a pet project, it's been something we've been working on for nearly three months now.



This week, we've managed to hook up with some people very close to BYU and the hoops program. Our band and those people are in talks about a project together (right now that's the most I can say about that... however it will help BYU and give healthy exposure to the church)

BUT



The last 2 weeks I've spoken to several friends and aquaintances in the music industry and they have very very strongly urged me to put as many covers of songs by the band on youtube prior to the big future project(s)



For reasons I'll explain below, we need a good place to record acoustic covers. It could be a nice room in your house (that doesn't have terrible acoustics) or possibly another place that you might be able to make available to the band.

The band includes 3 RMs (2 twin fijian brothers and another) and TWW (he's their acting manager now) from this site (Tom Westmoreland = tww).



Tom has a very very busy house and it doesn't make sense for the band to record there. It would require a minimum of 2-3 hours availability. They will be bringing in video cameras, and it wouldn't hurt if you also had a nice video camera setup.



They'll play the covers, have them recorded and we'll throw them up on their youtube page.

I live in Kansas City and obviously that doesn't allow for me to have them here (though I'd love it if their schedules didn't prohibit) but I'd imagine it would be an awesome time and a special occasion to have some boys that talented playing music in your home (they usually charge in excess of $1500-$4000 for gigs) PLUS

it would be a huge favor to myself, the band, and possibly even a special member of the Cougar family that might show up... (if you contact me and you have something that fits the bill, I'll tell you what we have up our sleeve)



We already have 2 attornies working with us, and I've gone to my friends in the music industry and they tell us that cheap stripped down covers are a must before we send them to the studio to do the bigger stuff; it's a fairly organized venture at this point, we just need the content to put online (thus far everything online is stuff they've done before we met them)



I would owe one of you a huge favor, and I would make sure that you were compensated in the future... it might even include front row tickets to some of these sold out BYU games (dont' hold me to that, but it's not out of the realm of possibility)

My less active Mormon dad, who does not follow BYU or any other college sports, but had two sons graduate from BYU - he has a large and beautiful house in the hills East of Heber City - Center Creek area. It is about a 10,000 SQFT house on 5 acres - so any noise is less likely to bother neighbors.



My Ute / UW Fan friend - that I played in a band with and did some amateur recording with back in the day, has about a 5,000 SQFT very nicely decorated home in the woods on about 39th South and 2000 East in SLC. He is not LDS and only tolerates BYU because of my tolerance for the Utes. If he did it, it would be just out of interest of helping out talented, starving musicians. Who knows - he might want to meet the JImmer or see him up close. He did say he would love to see the Jimmer on the Jazz. His son played with the sons of Stockton and Hornacek in basketball, golf, tennis, etc. and now plays football for UW.



The business partner of my Ute friend above lives between SLC and Provo. I have not been to his house, but it is probably pretty nice. Our band occasinally sat in with their band or played joint gigs back in the day. He is a really good guitarist and a BYU alum and fan.

PS - Of the three - my Ute friend would be the best overall situation to work with if he is willing to do it. Who knows - maybe they might want to cover one of our old songs in a completley different style.

You could try the osmond studios or BYU has studios too.

We have a studio lined up to do a couple originals, etc. and to do the collaboration with our BYU connection. but there's absolutely no need to record acoustic covers using one, the covers are simply one of the best ways on youtube to draw viewers and exposure, but they won't sell them so the quality doesn't have to be studio worthy. I'd be ecstatic to have them come to my place if i weren't so far away and if someone in Utah Valley can't step up, my brother in Bountiful will. He just recently moved from Wilson Sonsini in Palo Alto to SLC, he has to take the Utah bar now (how hard can that be if you ace the Cali bar?) and his wife is preggers so I thought I'd see if someone here on CC would want to host them and enjoy their immense talents (once again, these guys get paid on a near weekly basis to do gigs, so literally you're getting a free concert in your home with some wonderful boys, who many I have talked to, believe they have the talent to be major recording artists with the right guidance.)



Think of it as doing splits with missionaries with guitars... ;)

My band has a studio in Provo, and we actually recorded our stuff in our studio (just brought in a producer).

Our studio is in my guitarists house though, so I would need to run things by him. Do you need recording material, etc, or would they have all the gear?

Shot you 2 messages. I'll do whatever it takes to help these boys get a chance to use their immense talent (they're just too good to be humping for a living) but not only am I handcuffed here because of my location, but my wife has put me on a bit of a leash for this project until we can make them financially viable... (basically it's my summer golf) (I think about this project at the hospital, grocery store, etc. etc. it's been a lot of fun to do something outside of my comfort zone)



They have a huge polynesian following (5k facebook friends and 7k fb followers in fan pages), and are playing in vegas in 2 weeks at the rugby 7s, but west coast polynesians aren't enough to get them to quit their day jobs; youtube and covers is the way to go until we know they're ready and high profile enough to start laying down tracks for itunes, etc.



If we actually used your friends studio and could produce itunes/radio quality tracks... we could work out % deal on the royalties. (Like I said, I have several experienced attornies (my brother does vc and emerging business and one of my best friends has worked on the incorporation stuff) in my pocket that will provide whatever I need paperwork-wise)



These boys need a serious push towards viability and they're fully aware that this is a business venture and the people that are helping them might be doing it out of the kindness of their hearts, but if they do become viable that they will have to share their success (which is why the management and legal team has been put together).



I'm still open to more ideas and locations, but we can explore these 2 options also.



Bottom line, they need covers and content on youtube and they certainly have the musical chops to nail them... they just need a good location and I personally think it would be immense fun to have these guys in my home playing, and I feel that others would enjoy it just as much and of course there's the project very close to BYU and our hearts... (it's a very cool idea and it looks as if it's going forward full steam)

If nothing pans out up there, they are welcome to my place in Vegas when they are here. In fact, I rent another place to a guy who has a recording studio setup in the back room and he owes me big time. So let me know if I can help.

Craig - tried to msg you back - but msg shows as being in my outbox still. I will send you a msg on your facebook. For sound quality - something like Blue's studio, if properly insulated and sound-proofed will get you better sound quality.



If visual ambiance and reasonable sound quality balance - my old bandmate in SLC has a room with a stage he built for his band to practice and it is a designer home in the woods.



My dad's is a big, nice, designer house - but no special sound proofing.



My other best friend, I had not mentioned, is a BYU Alum and BYU Law School Alum and casual BYU sports fan - very well connected in SLC and Las Vegas. He lives in Sandy. Another former musician.



And the 4th option is my Ute friend's BYU alum business partner that is also a former musician friend.



If you want ambiance, I am pretty confident that one of them will do it, but I am trying to track them down serially un order of best fit. Still trying to get a hold of the Ute.
