UNLV's New Domed Stadium

I stumbled across something about this yesterday. It is to be funded by an LA Billionaire. It was not clear if it will be football only or multi-sport. It sounded like it could become the new site for the LV Bowl - although that was not certain.



It might also become a site for ESPN to broker Neutral Location games. I would rather see BYU playing neutral field games there vs Eastern Teams than playing Texas teams at jerry World in Texas.



It is not clear when construction is going to start or be completed. Las Vegas could certianly use the construction jobs in the dismal economy there and construction bids would be pretty competitive right now.



It will likely take more than a new stadium to turn UNLV into any kind of power, but it is a step in the right direction for them.

Las Vegas has needed a world class outdoor/dome stadium for a long time. It will be used for concerts, sporting events, etc. I'm surprised that it has taken this long. I wouldn't be surprised if it works as a place to hold the Super Bowl/Pro Bowl or a future BCS type game.

Hopefully it will at least have a paved parking lot.



Actually, I guess i don't really care that much - unless/until BYU plays in Vegas again. If the Rebels want to park in a dirt hole, then so be it.

I am hoping to see BYU play there - against some east coast BCS school on a "neutral" field in our back yard instead of playing on a "neutral" field in theirs.



And it would be nice to see a new Bowl created there - just for us - in about 3 years when our curent deals have finished.

Without BYU playing there regularly, they'll never sell out though.

Maybe we could play all of our Home Games in Provo and all of our other games in the Vegas Dome and then follow that with the Cougar Bowl - as a BCS Bowl addition.



Ok - I know - a little unrealistic for a self-proclaimed realist.

Good for UNLV, better for the LV Bowl. Vegas is a great destination for a bowl game, but that stadium has always been a downer. IF Vegas can add a great stadium, it could attract better tams to its bowl, give a higher payout, and become more prestigious What that means is that the LV Bowl, would look to dump the MWC. And LV might be an attractive location for BYU to have an auto tie in as a fall back bowl if a great new stadium and better opponent could be arranged.
