I just wanted to pass along some very exciting news.
A process is nearing completion through which the State of Texas will become the first state outside Utah to start selling official BYU license plates. The plates have been designed (see attachment) and are currently in the final stages of "reflectivity testing." Within the next couple of weeks, the design will be made available online for "e-view" to gauge the level of interest. If there's a high enough interest (and with 11,000+ alumni in Texas, there should be), then the plate would go to the DMV Board for final approval. The design would then get programmed into the plate manufacturer's computers and would become available for sale to the public.
The state has created a registration page http://www.myplates.com/go/byu where you can register to be notified when the "e-view" period begins, as well as when the actual plates go on sale. It takes less than a minute to register (name, email, phone and zip), so I would encourage anyone with any interest to do so today. If we generate enough buzz during the "e-view" period (and we've already notified the other Alumni and Management Society chapters around the state, as well as the Cougar Club chapter so that they alert their members too), then the state estimates that DMV approval would happen in March and plates would become available for sale in May (just in time to buy your plates before football season!).
On top of that, the state will send back a portion of the proceeds to go into a scholarship fund for Texans attending BYU.
