Now that SDSU Has Played BYU

What does Fisher try differently when we show up in San Diego? Scouting report showed Jimmer doesn't score more than 30 when at home. I'm sure Fisher thought if he just played tight 1:1 D on Jimmer to "limit" him and shut down everyone else he would have walked away with a win. Obviously, that didn't work.



My guess...Fisher doubles Jimmer a lot more in February, sticking both Gay and White on him - one tall; one quick and covers the rest of the floor with some type of zone.



Fisher knows he has to stay tight on Davies. KC isn't a threat. Noah and Emery are a bit streaky. So, Fisher can leave KC alone and put his man on Jimmer. Emery doesn't drive, so all you need is someone that can stay in front of him on the perimeter.



On offense. Fisher keeps it pretty much the same and pounds it inside.



For the first half of the game we played at SDSU's tempo. They'll be able to dictate things a bit better on their home court, so look for Fisher to try and keep things at their tempo once again. All he has to do is send Leonard in to rebound (dude has a nose for boards) and everyone else can get back to try to slow us down.

I think KC will be back to play next time they meet up and hopefully Fisher does forget about him. Before last night KC had been a force as of late, especially in the first half, so I think it's just a glitch and he'll be back. Fisher will have to pay more attention to Jimmer and Davies which leaves KC and Emery available to pick up the slack.

i'd love to have KC back for this year's SDSU game, but I think I'd love to have him an extra year even more after a medical RS.

Come to think of it, I actually shoot better from the line than them with my eyes closed. But i'm only 6'2" ... bummer.

If they double Jimmer at SDSU I predict we will win by more than we did in Provo, and Jimmer will still end up with nearly 30 points.

They will throw more players at Jimmer and Jackson and Hartsock will be on their game, so we'll still win big.

They played the best D against 3 of our positions and not so good against Jimmer and Davies. Next time they'll play D only on Jimmer and Davies, and Emery et al will have 50 plus and Fredette will be held to a February low of 40 points.

I think the key to winning at SDSU is Jackson. IF he plays the kind of D he played on Wednesday AND gets some kind of shooting touch going THEN it's going to be much harder to justify doubling Jimmer and will keep the whole offense opened up and running smoothly. I do think the game at SDSU will be a shootout and that our offense will play a bigger role than our defense in determining whether we get the win.

They are going to play the 6 man zone and hope the refs don't catch it. Now considering that they are MWC refs, they won't.

Defense will win it - hopefully for us. SDSU, and probably NM and others, will go back to what earlier teams did this year. They doubled and trippled Jimmer until others stepped up on offense. After Wednesday night, opponents are going to try that again. But if others step up, they will adjust to a more balanced defense. But if the others do step up on offense, it won't matter what the opponent does. If the others do not step up on offense, then DEFENSE, Davies (until he gets in foul trouble), and Jimmer will need to carry it again.

Both SDSU and BYU are very good defensive teams. The difference in the game on Tuesday will also be what determines the game next month: SDSU's ability to make shots. They kind of made shots in the first half and then couldn't make them when they needed them in the second half (to include free throws).



Rare has been the game this year when BYU couldn't make the shots they needed when they needed.



If SDSU couldn't make shots in either game last year or in the game this year, I wouldn't count on them being able to make them this next time. If the game comes down to the Aztecs ability to make shots, I'll take my chances.
