Remember 2010

I wish I had access to the area above the doorway departing out of the Cougar locker room and I could place a sign that said something to the effect, "You got Loboed", signed 2009-10 New Mexico Lobos.



This game Saturday has every sign of a trap game if BYU is not focused and it is hard as hello to be focused as a fan after that game Wednesday night. I hope they are far better than myself in their ability.



Along the line of conspiracy theories, how is it that the MWC would drag the Cougars back to the Pit after we had played SDSU for the 2nd year in a row. Sure, last year we played the first game at SDSU and then were sent to the Pit for a second sequential road game, but it's hard to imagine that as schedules change from year-to-year how the MWC again scehduled BYU to go to the Pit directly after our first encounter with SDSU. Wouldn't it seem like they would reverse last year and we'd have two home games in a row? I would hope someone with inside info from the MWC could explain that as it is a bit difficult to imagine this scenario we are experiencing in scheduling was just happenstance.



I just want the Cougars to remember that over the last two game vs. NM, BYU is 0-2 and they are the last (previous was Jan 2009) and only team to beat us in the MC last year. I want an attitude like we took to Vegas earlier this month in Alburquerque.

Don't worry, the team has not forgotten about last year. This team wants a MWC title and NM took it from them last year. Second point; this is not the same NM team that beat BYU twice last year. They have already lost 4 games in conference. They are not that good. BYU already beat a better CSU team in an away game. BYU is going to beat NM on saturday, I am more confident about that then I was that BYU would hold their home court last night. Third point; we have Jimmer, they don't.

If there is one thing that I think this BYU team knows how to do is focus and zero in on what needs to get done. If you told me we were going to beat SDSU with Jackson going 1-7, Hartsock 3-7 and Abouo 0-5 and KC taking only one shot, I might have laughed. I can't see those guys repeating that kind of performance on Saturday.



We have a couple days to regain our focus. We have a chance to go on the road and get away from some distractions and just get ready for the game. I think we'd have a better chance for a let down if we were at home against a poorer team.

Ditto on last two posts. Rose hasnt forgotten. NM will simply not defend as hard or as quick as sdsu or last year's nm team.

Trap game? possibly--only if byu gets full of themselves and thinks they can thump on the lobos.

I really believe there are no trap games this season. BYU and Rose know that SDSU already beat NM on the road. As such, BYU must match SDSU in order to win the regular season title. Accordingly BYU will take every game seriously. I also bet they want to do something never been done before in the MWC, that is, go undefeated in the regular season. What a way to finish off their stay in the MWC.



Another point is playing SDSU and NM back to back will only serve to better prepare the squad for tournament play. SDSU is a top 10 squad and NM is the defending, record setting MWC champ. To be the best, you got to beat the best. Playing SDSU and then NM in the same week will test their ability to rebound and play in a hostile environment, which is required during the Dance. So rather than complain, let's thank the MWC for helping BYU get battle tested for the Tournament.

And SDSU still has to match BYU's win at UNLV. But yes, if BYU can win at new Mexico, then they very well may run the table.

I don't think anyone on the team is taking the Lobos lightly, but I think (as a fan) it should be an easier win than many anticipate.

Who's worse NM or unlv? They are both thunkers.



But NM will surely be up for this one, and I think BYUs worry game will be the one after it. BYU wins this one boys, don't fret at all.

Fourth point: BYU didn't have Jimmer last year, at least not the real deal. They caught us during the mono-effect. Jimmer was not healthy for at least half of last year (between flu and mono). He has been the Energiser Bunny this year. Another point: Nerves were a factor in the SDSU game. I don't think they will be at the PIT. But your first point is most important. I think they are as hungry for NM as they were for UNLV.

I believe all indications are that we will be fine and luckily Jimmer actually has thrived on the road like no one I've ever known. Its not likely that our other pieces of the offensive support will have a 2nd off game in a row. I will be just happy when this next game is over. You can always lose on any given day, but there are just specific places that I get more nervous than other and for me, those two places are Vegas and Albuquerque.
