DB's next year??

Lets take a look at next years possible DB's:



Ryan Comer - Safety??

Cameron Comer

Jordan Johnson

Kori Gaines

Robbie Buckner

Joe Sampson - I'm being optimistic -Safety

Jray Galea'i

Corby Eason

DeQuan Everett

Travis Uale - Safety

Preston Hadley - Safety

Carter Mees



Who am I missing??



Looking at this list we may not have a TON of experience but they should be fast(multiple guys run sub 4.4 - 40's) and athletic with some decent depth next season. Not sure how many of these guys(Comer, Comer, Sampson, or Hadley) might red-shirt though.

the only additions to your list that I can think of are two players that might move from LB to Safety - Daniel Sorensen who is coming off his mission and Tyler Beck who redshirted in 2010. Both played Safety in HS.



As far as Safety vs. DB I think Ryan Comer will be at Safety as will Jray. DeQuan is big enough to play Safety if needed and Hadley is fast enough to play DB if needed there.



Sampson used his redshirt this last year I believe and Cameron Comer redshirted in 2008. Not sure if the two Snow transfers still have a redshirt year left but since both are returned missionaries I suspect that they have already used their redshirt year.



Is Lee Aguirre done at BYU or is there a chance that he can still qualify academically?

spring is going to be interesting this year at defensive back. Which one of these guys is going to make their way up the depth chart? I am personally excited to see where Jordan Johnson ends up on the depth chart. I just hope a few of them emerge and we don't get stuck with indecision like we did with our tight ends last year.

Forgot about Daniel Sorensen, he looks like he could have the making of a decent safety

Hadley was planning on playing LB but with the depth we have there he is considering moving to SS, but that's still uncertain, from what I've heard he would need to drop some weight to play safety.

TBS has Hadley listed as a CB at 6'0 - 200lbs running a 4.4 - 40yd. That looks like safety material to me. Has he put on a bunch of weight and/or was he playing LB at Snow?? If Sampson doesn't make it we'll really him need at S.

He just got back from his mission and from what I heard bulked up to about 240.



Edit: Looks like there's two Hadleys on the team I was thinking of Spencer Hadley, he is considering switching to SS though.

Preston Hadley played Safety at Snow last year and can play DB as well.



Spencer Hadley is an RM that is listed as a LB but played RB in HS so depending on his weight could be a Safety.

He's the one who my cousin knows from his mission and he said he would likely try to switch to safety because of the number and talent at the linebacker position.

Overall I like the talent and this won't be a rebuilding year for the positions. I expect few struggles in any in fact.

So far the STANDOUTS at corner have been Jordan Johnson and Preston Hadley. Nice to see guys stepping up especially with Eason injured.



I wonder who's going to roll at Safety if Preston Hadley is being used at Boundary Corner?? Ryan Comer, Joe Sampson(maybe), Daniel Sorensen, Jray Galea'i, O'neill Chambers?? Actually that could be a pretty FEARSOME group at the Safety spots!!!!! Word is that Sorensen has stood out in 7-on-7 drills.

This is a great article on the secondary. If anything we definitely has some athletic ability. whether that translates to leadership and execution on the field, we will see.

This gets me pumped:



"Cougar fans could get excited at the prospects putting Everett, Sampson, Sorensen and Hadley out on the field together in the defensive secondary." Include Jordan Johnson in that mix and we could have a SCARY good secondary

Sampson needs to qualify academically first. He is a no-go for Spring because of grades as he is not enrolled at BYU yet. If he does not get it done in the spring, he will be a no go for 2011. So he really is up in the air. Based upon the fact he did not qualify for Winter semester, we can't assume he makes it. His cousin in Brian Logan, so I have hope for him. BYU is holding a schollie for him. Hope he qualifies.



Corby Eason will start at corner. He is out for spring as well, but has shown he has what it takes to get it done. Dude was the best blitzer off the corner for BYU I have seen in forever, and he covers. Other corner will be either Jordan Johnson or Buckner, who are battling it out now for that spot. Hadley could play corner or safety, if needed, and I think we need more depth at corner now, so look for him there this year.



We have depth and athleticism. Hope it translates to perfomance on the field. Imagine what Bronco could do with pressure if his corners could play man, instead of all zone. Throwing differnet looks and bringing pressure from all over would make Bronco a happy man. I expect to see it this year. BYU will have an aggressive defense. Will be fun to watch.
