The Excuse

Seems like SDSU came prepared with an excuse of why they lost. From ESPN's Diamond Leung:

Kawhi Leonard had 22 points and 15 rebounds, but was feeling the effects of flu-like symptoms and given two bags of IV before the game.

this doesn't really bother me. If he really took 2 bags, he probably wasn't feeling great and he's a stud for playing through it.



We would have said the same thing if Jimmer had the flu last night, only scored 15, and BYU lost.

The CBSC commentators said that the altitude was sucking the energy right out of the Aztec players. I told my son that would happen before the game, especially if it's a close game for the first three/quarters of the game. It was.



People would think that SDSU won't have that disadvantage at their home court, but remember that there, the BYU players will be getting more oxygen then they are use to and they won't tire as quickly and they're recover more quickly.



I hope that there will be a ton of BYU fans at that game and I hope that it's on TV again here in Florida.



BTW, not having the conditioning for high altitude is devastating, just ask my boys how I was hiking up in the mountains of Utah this past summer for the first week of our three week vacation. I'd walk a couple of hundred yards and I had to sit. After a half mile, I had to turn around and go home and all the kids I was with called me "old man" the whole time. Some of the boys even offered to carry me down the mountain side. Kids these days have noooo respect.

I thought the SDSU media excuse was coming after the game. I listened to the post game show on KSL and they interviewed coach Fisher. Some moron SDSU media person was trying to get Fisher to say they lost because of the refs. It was some guy named Mark becasue coach called him by name, and Fisher basically told Mark he wanted to focus and talk about BYU being a great team. Classy for Fisher.

Fisher is a classy coach. He knows when he's gotten beat and won't spin it any other way. Aztecs rack up 20 wins and some idiot reporter wants to blame their first loss the refs?

I believe the Feb. 26 game is actually being shown on CBS...not CBS College Sports, but CBS. I'm too lazy to double check the rumor, so I could be wrong.

Shouldn't being sick still be greater than still being mormon? I'm confused by asstec logic.

Obviously the sickness didn't have too much of an effect. The guy had 22 points and 15 rebounds. He had a great game. It was the rest of the team that didn't step up. Did they all have the flu?

We played awesome D. Emery isn't getting much props for the D he put on Gay. Gay had a few 30 point games recently and was on a shooting tear until last night. Emery was on him like glue and if I recall correctly the only points he had all night were on free throws. Nice work Emery.

That's true, our D was awesome last night. I think we held them without a field goal for almost 9 minutes at one point in the the second half

This time, it was BYU which swayed the momentum with a flurry of points and, perhaps, some help from the three-man Mountain West Conference officiating crew. Not that you could have heard their whistle...s even if they blew them, the Marriott Center was so ridiculously loud, but it wasn’t until 10:25 left that BYU had its first foul of the second half.



No whistles meant no rest, no break in the flow, and the team from sea level finally couldn’t catch its breath in the rarefied air of 4,682 feet, and a 38-35 lead became a 52-46 deficit. That doesn’t seem like much, but in a game this tight – there were seven ties and 15 lead changes – it was enough separation to make a difference.



Using the ref excuse? No freaking way!! What game was this guy watching? Not the one I attended and the one CBSC broadcast!!

How about the goal tending incident against Jimmer that wasn't called? How about the numerous fouls against Jimmer that weren't called?



Yeah, the refs might not have called calls against BYU, but they didn't call a lot against SDSU also.

I'm actually excited for the game at SDSU. First, Jimmer and Davies will not be the only guys able to make a basket; Emery, Harsock and Collinsworth will come to play in that game and do more damage than they did in this one.



Second, Jimmer plays better away from home than at the MC; he could get 50 in San Diego.



Third, SDSU will be tighter for that game than they were for this one. They weren't supposed to lose, and Fisher had a great defensive plan to stop Jimmer. What's Fisher going to do? play a zone? Not likely, but they might.



Fourth, the officials will actually call fouls in San Diego and Jimmer will make 21 of 22 free throws. Yes, I'm excited for San Diego.

I will have to go back and really check, but there weren't a lot of free throws shot by either team. This is a positive for BYU, even though they are great free throw shooters right now because it means the game is free flowing and up and down.

The stupid Waaztechs are really moving up on my hate list. Cry babies.

I am talking about the fans and reporters. As far as the coaches, now that Hoke is gone I don't have a problem with them either.

Their fans and media are so horrible that they make up the difference. If I had to take one team for all sports, it would be CSU or AFA, I really have been impressed with the Rams organization from fans to players to coaches etc. the last several years.
