Ben Cahoon retires from CFL, joins BYU staff!

Ben Cahoon is retiring today.

Does he have a new job lined up already? Perhaps a coaching job?

I hope it's announced shortly that Cahoon will be hired as wide receivers coach at BYU.

I'll take a combination retirement/hiring announcement. Something like, "I'm thankful for my time here in Montreal, I'm taking my talents to Provo."

The story has now been updated with some interesting remarks

"I am so grateful for the chance I have had to be an Alouette for 13 years. I am looking forward to the next stage in my life, whatever it is."



Cahoon's future appears to be in the coaching ranks, with him alluding several times to the possibility of joining the staff at Brigham Young University, his alma mater.

Somehow he will end up at Utah. They always seem to get our boys.

a story in today's Deseret News said Cahoon was waiting to hear back from BYU about a possible coaching position.

My guess is that BYU is waiting to see what shakes out with Roderick. If he elects to accept a demotion and stay at the U then we probably hire Cahoon by the time spring ball starts.

In listening to a podcast with jay drew he said that Roderick has told BYU that he is not interested in a position at BYU... FWIW..

He did do that, but that was while the Norm Chow hire was still up in the air. The question is, have feelings changed since Roderick was officially demoted and replaced with Chow.

Long time reader, first time posting. I believe that if Cahoon gets the job (all signs are pointing to yes) he will be the fiery guy who isn't afraid to rip his receivers if they aren't playing up to potential (something Bronco had to do last year since Higgins wasn't doing it or doing it correctly). I base this theory on what he said after his senior year. If I rememer the events correctly (searched for the article and couldn't find it) after the last game of his senior year, he ripped the offensive play calling (Chow) for being too conservative when we had a chance to win the game or make it closer by going deep or just running different plays, He was attempting to hit the 1,000 yard plateau that season and fell just short with 930 yards or something like that leading to some of the frustration; But I like that he wasn't afraid to be vocal about frustrations.I feel that if he was vocal with the media about his frustrations he must have been even more vocal behind closed doors trying to fix what he perceived to be issues. I think that will lead to a coach that the kids will listen to and will respond to when he demands certain things out of them.

It would be nice having some of the same intensity we see on defense on the offensive side of the ball.

O'Neill Chambers was similarly vocal this past year and although I don't know any specifics, he was probably right. yet we accuse him of stepping out of line. Can't respect Cahoon and vilify Chambers in the same breath unless someone knows more details about both situations than I do.

Note that Cahoon said these things after his senior year. That is far different than saying them during the season.

We need to remember that OC had the muzzle put on him from day one when he went off about deserving to be ahead of upper classman and gave interviews which freshman aren't allowed to do. The situations are very different

The rule about freshmen not talking to reporters came after Chambers' freshman year. In fact, it's jokingly called the "Chambers Rule."



A little fire is a good thing. The thing about Cahoon is that he didn't try and show up the coaches on the field in the middle of the game like Chambers did. It's really about timing.

OC was much more like Jamie Hill than Ben Cahoon. All talk and no walk.



Ben Cahoon has earned the right to jaw off to anyone, anywhere, anytime about all things receiving/passing. The only thing OC earned the right to do, was clean out his locker.



The two can't even be compared in the same breath/sentence.

talo at tbs doesn't seem too confident that cahoon is getting the job. he thinks byu is passing because they want someone who is proven in ability to communicate and coach improved skills.



I think they would take roderick if they could get him. i wouldnt' be surprised if someone else got it over cahoon that we haven't even thought of.
