Keys to the game vs SDSU

Aside from Jimmer's offense (If Jimmer and Jax shoot 50% or above, game over.),

BYU's perimeter defense #1 key!

If DJ Gay and the guards get dribble pentration our bigs will pile up the fouls stopping them and then turning to defend sdsu's bigs on the dump off passes and it could be a long night.

Critical players-Collinsworth has to be big on D--particularly on Leaonard (i think leonard plays the 3 spot.)

Abouo off the bench could be a big factor slowing down leonard as well.

But we have to cut down dribble penetration.

If BYU plays good perimeter D - which they have the last few games vs SDSU, then they'll win. Of course, given the way SDSU shoots from the perimeter, good perimeter D, might simply entail letting them shoot.



Hopefully, DJ Gay guards Jimmer and is too tired to drive or hit shots. I expect us to play a lot of zone. Without Chris Collinsworth, we need to protect our big guys.



If Abouo shoots the ball well offensively, game over. In my opinion, BYU is pretty much unbeatable if Chuck is shooting well.

Hartsock and Davies need to stay out of foul trouble. Noah did not do much against CSU but had 4 fouls. Davies was a beast, racking up 12 points and 9 boards before fouling out. We need our bigs to be able to be aggressive defensively and go after the boards without committing fouls.

BYU needs to keep the tempo up, which means keeping the game free flowing and moving. The main thing that CSU did during their second half push was make BYU take the ball out of bounds after made shots (FG's and even worse FT's). The guy guarding Jimmer went straight to him, 3 guys dropped back, and one player went for an offensive rebound on almost every shot that CSU put up in the 2nd half.



BYU needs to make SDSU shoot a poor percentage from the field and all 5 players need to rebound on defense. Rebound and then transition up the floor quickly. Maybe not getting fast break points, but getting into the offense quickly and making SDSU scramble a bit.

Key is keeping Noah and Davies in the game and Jimmer and Jax shooting lights out.

One of the biggest keys, especially if BYU goes to a lot of zone will be defensive rebounding. Playing zone, it's very easy to forget or not know where your box out assignment is and creates offensive rebounding seams, so that will be big for BYU. This not only means the bigs but the guards as well, especially the off guard to come back into the paint to help rebound.

Someone needs to tell Davies this is just a normal game.

Kyle Collinsworth, Rogers, Charles Abuo, James, and the guy from Wasatch High School - Logan M and some reserve I probably left out - in that order.



Fredette and Jackson will be fine - maybe better than fine. Davies and Hartsock will be fine until the yget in foul trouble and they will get into foul trouble. Then KC, as vs CSU, will need ot play multiple roles including defending big guys and taking some of the fouls while continuing to contribute points. If KC can fill multiple roles and shoot well from the outside as he has been doing as of late and make free throws, Abuo, Rogers, james, Logan and others can defend and take up some slack and let Jimmer, Jackson, and Kyle carry BYU to victory.

I'm more bothered by the fact that #2 Pitt just lost at home to #14 ND. So if sds were to win (they won't) they'd go up to 2 or 3. And ND jumps to #9. When BYU wins over sds they'll move to 8 or stay at 9.

Seconded. Keeping our bigs out of foul trouble is huge. We will likely be grossly out rebounded with our starters on the floor, much less our subs. Davies needs to play smart, and Anderson needs to "punk" a few guys driving in. I really like the way the cougs are playing offensively, just need Davies in more, so he can get the ball low. How awesome would it be to make them have to chose between doubling Davies, or an open 3!



The Marriot Center will be banging, and I think if we even play average to their average, we win this game.



If we play average to their great, then it is a different story. All we have to do is play at their level (or better) and stay out of foul trouble, and we win by 10 or more.

Agreed. I think if both teams play the same level (average for average, great for great) it bodes well for BYU. BYU has four of the last five in this series (the only loss being in the UNLV Invitational), and surprisingly, has out-rebounded the Aztecs in three of them.

Throw KC into that mix too. KC was a deer in the headlights at UCLA.



Last thing we need is for either of them, especially Davies, to get jumpy on us. KC can be spelled by Abouo (I'm kind of in favor of starting Abouo over KC), but we've got no one to spell Davies.

Stay out of foul trouble and limit the entry passes. Do that and we win.
