Who Do You Really Want - Football Coaches Poll

Ok. A lot has been said. Fur is flying. Someone mentioned a conspiracy theory explaining vitriolic posts on other boards. Who should BYU hire with the one and only official opening at this time.



I wish we had an OC as good as we hope Doman will be with five years OC experience. I wish we had Jeff Grimes for O/L. I wish we had someone as good as Doman is now at QB coach. I wish we had someone of Doman / Grimes capability at every position coach on all sides of the ball including offense, defense, special teams, conditioning, recruiting and anything I left out.



Now for reality. The defense is fully staffed. We have Doman ready to cut his teeth at OC. We have DuPaix ready to coach something once his specific assignment is announced. We have an open position. We have Reynolds and Weber up in the air - so assume that they will be staying for the purposes of this poll. We have Higgins to replace right now. That is it.



I left out Steve YOung, Jim McMahon, Jeff Grimes, Leach, and others that seem unlikely to come or Chow, Crowton or others that seem unlikely to be wanted or to fit as a position coach. In other words - pick people we think we can land right now. If you choose "other" - name them.

My choice = Surprise Me. I want experience and sizzle. A Jeff Grimes type combination of experience and talent.

Nelson has a coach. Coach Doman. And he's still a Cougar. He just won't be the starting QB.



He still has a role to play in the program - possibly even on the field. Let's not forget the fact that Jake was the worst starting QB ever in BYU history until the bye week, when something clicked. Something from which he will never look back or relinquish the starting job.

I appreciate the sentiment and would love to work with Lark, Munns, Nelson, and the other guy, too. ;)



Unfortunatly that is as unlikely for two of the same three reasons, as Norm Chow.



I am not bitter and resentful of BYU like Norm Chow may be - even though I too was kind of run out of town (The Beard) - but

(1) Nobody else but you and me would want me - and

(2) I make three times what the job pays - wife wouldn't let me take the cut in pay due to her self-interests



Help me out here DMCougar - make another choice

A Tweet to the right just said the same source that tipped reporters to DuPaix is saying to keep an eye on Steve Clark OC at SUU. I read the link and googled. He was a grad assist at BYU and coached at Utah under the Urban Dude. But I cannot tell if he played college football. He did graduate from BYU - but playing is not mentioned in anything I could find. He sounds successful. Anyone know about him. It is a common name. Someone with that name worked for me - was a very good Country Music singer on the side too. A relative of mine by that name ran for President of BYU-I student body. There are a million other ones on Google. Anyone remember this one.

He's got coaching experience, but he didn't play for BYU. Is that what the coaches really want? We'll see soon as an announcement is surely coming.

I came up with Chad Lewis without much hesitation at all. The guy has proven he wants to be around the team and that he is 100% committed to making the program NC-caliber. There are a lot of "names" that look good, but I think Chad will bring the most benefit in the shortest amount of time. I honestly don't know if he can coach, but I do know that our TE's suck. So if he can coach, that's where we need the most improvement quickly.

Chad Lewis was already hired by the athletic department in another capacity. I don't know why his name keeps getting floated out there. He's not coaching at BYU. If he thought he could/would be brought on board, he wouldn't have taken his current position's job offer.

How come Darrell Bevell's name has not come up before - especially when we were talking OC. He is apparently out of our league - Just got an NFL OC offer - he is LDS - played at Wisconsin iirc, but I truly wish BYU would have stepped up the salaries and created a dream team of coaches. The former DC at UCLA that was part of that dream team with Chow and Slick Rick - comes to mind as well as who we should have gotten to replace Hill.



Don't get me wrong, I think Doman is a good gamble for OC, and realistically, as good as any other option that could have happened given salary constraints, etc. Short of rolling out the bank roll, BYU will probably do ok with the hires that have and will be made.



But imagine



Darrell Bevel OC and inside receivers coach, Doman QB Coach Supreme, Jeff Grimes O/L, ????



Who would be the dream team RB Coach and WR coach (dream means sizzle talent and experience) to round that out if we wanted to make sure we never missed out on the **** and ***** recruits in our HC compatible talent pool.

I'd love to get Bevell.

Steve Kragthorpe son of former OSU coach Dave Kragthorpe and whose brother is a sportswriter in SLC, just got rummored to be the incoming OC at LSU to replace Crowton. I am pretty sure he is LDS, but that Kragthorpe family has little ties to BYU. Dave was a BYU assistant coach at some point an dplayed at USU. Steve played at a lesser known school, but has coaches Louisville, an dother places including as a head coach. I don't recall his name coming up in the earlier OC discussion either. He is probably very expensive.

I don't like to have quotas, but it's hard for me to not recognize that there is a need for some AA flavor to the staff now that Hill is gone. According to Harmon, some of BYU's AA players admitted as much, especially for those who are not LDS and Provo appears as the most obscure place on the planet.

That Drage did interview for the job, but that they were going another direction.. I did ask if they knew who it was going to be and they said no...

Things sure seem to have gone quiet on the Steve Clark front - or all fronts for that matter. There is still time to vote and if the Steve Clark rumor had you holding off, the poll is about who you want - not who you think will get it - and you can vote for other and write in Steve Clark. So far - no one has written in Steve Clark - although he fits the Surprise me category - or did.
