ESPN and Texas now in bed

Shouldn't come as a shock to anyone, perhaps just sooner than we expected. $300 Million buys the Longhorns and their new 24-hour TV station.

So Texas gets 15 mil a year for the next 20 and BYU gets what for the next 8? 20 mil?

This UT-ESPN deal is the future of college sports. Texas just commanded as much money as the rest of the Big 12 alone. They don't have to share that money with Baylor or Iowa St. It won't take long for Alabama or USC to realize they don't want/have to share money with the Vanderbilts and Washington States of their conferences.



Conferences could likely become scheduling facilitators as opposed to athletic partnerships.

One thing that's clear is that Texas will no longer be "looking to BYU" for how to build and run their own TV studio. Apparently ESPN will pay them $300 Million for the privilege of doing it FOR them.



This used to be one of the often-mentioned benefits of why Texas would want BYU in the Big ...whatever it is 12? 10? 1+9? So much for that little bargaining chip.
