tmoney35This past weekend, I went to the International Auto Expo in Salt Lake City.
Some thoughts:
After spending some time in the Audi section, I walked on and suddenly felt a wave of complete boredom come over me. I realize I had wandered into the Lexus section.
Out of the three iterations of the Cadillac CTS-V, I would totally take the sport wagon. It might just have been my favorite car there. I'm still not sold on the coupe styling after seeing it in person, but it's certainly is a head turner.
Being a proud Saab owner, I was a little disappointed in their display. The 9-5 looks great, and if you live anywhere near a dealership, you should go test drive one because it is a fantastic car, but they didn't have the new 9-4x there and the 2011 9-3's aren't that much different from my '03, especially the interior. I can't wait to see the new 9-3 in a couple years.
Ford and GM had a bunch of cars available for test drives, but GM stole the show by bringing two Camaro SS'. That camaro has some interior ergonomic and outward visibility issues, but once you floor it, none of that matters. The sound and thrust from the V-8 is absolutely intoxicating :evil:
I was really impressed with some of the new Ford's. Their ecoboost engine is a real winner. Twin turbo V-6 with 365 horsepower. I drove the Taurus SHO and the Flex, both with the ecoboost, and loved them both. The Flex was the top-of-the-line Titanium edition and it's sticker price was $51,000! Way too steep for that car IMO. It had some really nice features, but I was thinking low to mid-40's would be more appropriate.
The other Ford I drove was the new Explorer. The interior was incredible. All the controls on the center console were touch, not buttons, and the LCD screens on the driver control panel were really hi-tech looking. It desperately needs the ecoboost engine though. The NA V-6 it came with was totally overmatched.
Also, I got a free 1-year subscription to Motortrend, and I signed up to get $50 for going to a ford dealership and taking a test drive. My wife signed up too, so we made $100, and only had to pay $5 each for tickets to the expo. Pretty sweet deal if you ask me :D
