Timing is Everything - Coincidence?

I like to look ahead and see what is coming. I was happy to see that CSU is on the road tomorrow night (Wed) at UNLV iirc, giving BYU who is already home, one extra day and a long CSU travel night advantage for BYU game prep for Saturday.

Then I was happy to see our SDSU game is Wednesday - leaving 1 more prep day than if it had been Tuesday. I was happy about all of this, until I clicked on SDSU's schedule to see what they had for prep time and it is a BYE week for SDSU leading up to BYU.

I think someone mentioned that a few weeks ago, but - I know - we still have to beat CSU in a tough road game first - but is it a coincidence that SDSU gets this break in scheduling? Is it Karma?

Personally I think bye's during the basketball season are less effective that those during football. I think rust and game speed become a factor. The fact that we play sdsu at home and do NOT have a bye prior to them is sufficient to me that we will come out sharp and ready to play hard and well against them. First things first though, let's crush the rams.

BYU needs to beat CSU for sure, no chance of a road let down for sure, and I think the fans will do enough to mess with SDS, NM was little challenge due to lobo people fearing their lives in the pitt hole. The MC should be rocking!

But the scheduling has always been questionable IMO. In 2006 fans complained we weren't getting enough games on TV, they replied to a cougarblue person (at the time) that games are shown equally, when in fact Air Force and Wyoming had nearly double the amount of games aired on TV. What the Heck? Thus the beginning of my resentment to a watered-down and very unprofessional network.

BYU has never gotten a fair shake in this conference, and we made it what it is (TCU helped some in football and recently baseball the last few years). So buh-bye, and hello to the new Mountain Worst.

As far as the bye week, it is not a big deal. If UNM can give SDSU a game, and we beat CSU with enough time to rest our starters, it will be a non-factor. As long as we get to rest them some, it will actually come out in our favor, as I think we will come out banging, and they will be surprised at actual game speed for an opponent.

Y'know I remember what it was like to be 19 and in my early early 20's. You don't get tired! I was a baller, but I was not a D1 baller by any means. So I think these guys could care less about getting time off. A whole week off before UCLA seems to have screwed with them and I think it would anyone. I mean how much game-planning do you need to play basketball?

My concern wS about time to study film and tendencies and to game plan and practice that plan. And, I agree with others - a week off is too much. Someone mentioned UCLA and we were not sharp. Due to MTN blah blah blah and time zone incHawaii and work and walking the dog while my wife is in Ca driving my pregnant daughter nuts, I did not see the game or listen to it last night. Just Tweets from CB giving live updates. But we were not all sharp last night - Jackson was. Jimmer was not - gets 21 triple teamed on an off shooting night though.

I was not wishing BYU had a week off. I go nuts waiting.

I wish SDSU played late Sat night and had to be in Provo Wed early, though.

PS

How much time is ideal for rest, film, planning, and practice - and Sunday gets in the mix?

I like the fact that we're getting 5 of our last 8 games at home, including 3 of our last 4. The MWC hasn't completely worked us over this year.

Ther's a real chance we could go 7-1 the second half of conference, the only loss being at SDSU. There's even a decent chance that BYU and SDSU could both go 15-1 in conference, the only losses being on the others' home court. Although, BYU still has the upper hand in conference as I think the win at UNLV is a little better than the win at UNM.

Yeah, our bye really helped us put TCU away.

If this was football, it might make a difference, but byes in basketball can almost be more disruptive. I don't think it gives SDSU much of an advantage.

The only advantage SDSU may gain from the bye is an additional few days of the local media being able to stir up anger, animosity and jealousy among their fan base.
