If we dont' hear an announcemnt on the whole staff shortly it makes me think that there will be additional changes.

I didn't care about Weber either but recruits seem to really really like him. Mathews says he will reconsider if he is gone and this new oline recruit out of oregon also expressed worry that weber was gone. He has done a good job, I say keep him at this point unless there is a clearly superior candidate or other problem that we are not aware of.

Wow - Bronco is really upgrading the coaching staff to be ready for prime-time Independence exposure and success.

I like Cahoon. A lot. But the diversity sure takes a hit. Don't underestimate the importance of that in recruiting and retaining non-white players.

Quality coaching staff trumps race/diversity every time. Look what diversity did for NM Football program...

If Cahoon can coach up players to do what he did (run crisp, precise routes, catch anything within a diving catch of him) then he better be the guy. I hope he can do this because I would love to see him on the sidelines. Seems to already fit the mold of coaches bronco wants and is getting.

I don't think BYU makes a public move to replace him for a few days---make it look like they waiting until he was gone to look for a new hire.



Now just waiting on Reynolds to step down for health reasons or to take an administrative position and the shake-up should be done.

I think the Anae stuff was supposed to go down like this as well. This is how it works in the coaching ranks. But someone told Harmon too much, and it blew up on Bronco, which was totally unfair to him.



Higgins landed a nice gig. A Big 10-2 school is not so bad. Purdue is a good university with academic standards as well, so that is good.



I do not think Cahoon is a slam dunk though. No one saw DuPaix coming, so this next hire could also surprise some people.

The Utah sports media is giving Mendenhall props now for not having actually "fired" anyone.



This is important (particularly with Anae as some polynesian families seem put off by that) that Bronco has not fired anyone and thus far those that have left have landed on their feet.



Signing day is just a few days away and we haven't had any major departures (except for Joe Sampson... for other reasons), Ryker Mathews is already in school at the Y with his teammates and classmates (and he's already signed)... so it's all good.



I would love to see Cahoon come in , Reynolds go to the desk and Chad Lewis come in as an on the field coach.

I think Reynolds will coach for 2-3 more years, then step away. If I had a son playing at BYU and I was on staff, I'd want to keep coaching until he was done. I think Lance steps away when Houston graduates. Plus, will be about time anyway.

I'm just opposed to Bronco making such radical changes to his staff as it was originally reported and is appearing to be the undisclosed official truth and thinking that this should all be done under the cloak of secrecy. I still wonder if he didn't orchestrate the leak of the information in the first place and won't answer anything about it.



I'm kind of pulled. I like him realizing he needed to make some offensive changes, but I just don't like him making such drastic changes and not letting the public, which is the only reason his job exists, stay out in the dark. I respect the guy a lot, but this causes me to just pause a bit. Does everything around here need to be so unconventional?

I don't think Reynolds has that choice right now. I think his only choice now is how to exit gracefully. He's the one that leaked the meeting to his bosom pal Dick Harmon, and when your boss trying to build a unified staff around a principle of trust, you're pretty much signing your own pink-slip with that, no matter how offended you are.

Bronco is in a no-win situation right now, especially if he's seriously contemplating replacing Reynolds. He's done a good job so far and the facts always get out eventually. Patience em_puma.

Patience, as my wife and children can attest too, is not one of the virtues I was born with and it's taking too long to get here dagumit!

I never have a problem with staff turn over. Ever. LaVell had it pretty much every year himself, mostly because guys got better paying gigs or promotions elsewhere. It is part of the job. Losing 1-2 coaches every year or so is normal in this business, and BYU has not had turnover really since 2005, which is not normal. Go check out all the changes on LaVell's staff through the years. Change is not a bad thing at times.



By the way, why is Franchuk such a tool. Seriously, the predictability continues? Really? So I suppose he saw that DuPaix hiring from miles away right? Because it was so predictable. Maybe Anae and Higgins leaving were predictable and expected, but otherwise, not so much.

You are certainly correct that on good coaching staffs, there is turnover and remarkably, there has been very little at BYU under Bronco. You can't really compare what Bronco did to anything that LaVell ever did, so it's tough to draw a comparision. Correct me if I'm wrong, but we never heard through leaks that LaVell had told a coach to find other employment and then they left, especially the whole offenisve staff. I guess just because something has been done forever one way doesn't specifically mean that it can't be done another. It's just as I noted, a bit uncoventional to do it the way he is.
