Per Wrubell twitter,

BYU coach Dave Rose: F Chris Collinsworth out for the season after knee surgery. Rose says BYU will file for a medical hardship waiver (medical redshirt). Collinsworth's injury occurred within the NCAA criteria window.

This SUCKETH!!!!! Our front-line takes a major hit now. Going deep into the tourny is going to be a problem now.

He is much more solid than any of the guys we have coming off of our bench. Our bench is pretty suspect right now. Abuo looked terrible against the frUtes, the only guy i have some confidence in is Rogers and he is very inconsistent. This will hurt when we get in foul trouble against good opponents.

Rogers and Abouo are going to really have to take their game to a new level. I mean KC has played the 4 this year a few times but we'd need both Abouo and Rogers to really take a step forward.

i'm not sure that this won't be a major blessing in disguise. As has been posted on this site repeatedly, Chris needed a redshirt this year, and i'm sure in retrospect the coaches agree with this. Now Chris gets that redshirt, as it appears he will almost certainly qualify due to the knee surgery. While we lose some depth up front this year, this team goes only as far as Jimmer's broad and capable shoulders carries them anyway. We and the other players all realize this is Jimmer's world, we're just livin'in it. 8)

It would have been a much bigger hit if Christ had played in more than a handful of games and had just barely gotten hurt.

We could still use him, but the team has found a way to get by without him, they just need to continue to do so.

I did a double take on the original post and then I realized what he was trying to say.

So this explains how some of Jimmer's shots have been going in...a little divine intervention :)

Microfracture surgery is tough. I'm no orthopod but success rates are only 75% and the recovery takes forever and takes a lot of patience and work. This is bad news as there is a much greater risk of further knee problems ala Greg Oden and Chris Webber. I hope he does well.
