Here I go again. I have mentioned before casually being acquainted with a former BYU player who played in the NFL through my old ward which is my daughter's current ward becasue she lives at my ranch there.
My wife has been camped out there for much of the past two months for holidays of course, but also baby showers and the much anticipated birth of our first grandson. More on him in a minute.
The former BYU player has an incredible family and his wife has gone out of her way to make my wife feel welcome back in the ward even though they were not in that ward back when we lived there. We bumped into her and her kids at an Eagle project while there at Christmas, and she has sat by my wife at Church to chat and check on how my daughter is doing. My daughter teaches one of her kids in Sunday school.
Anyway - although my wife was shocked to hear this - because you would never even wonder by looking at her - she told my wife she is pregnant (not sure if this is public yet - so not naming names here yet). So her youngest may grow up with my grandson to be. This is a great LDS, BYU family - and this got me thinking.
They have about 6 kids - the type that show up at Eagle Scout projects during the Christmas holidays. They are a BYU family - through and through.
A few weeks ago, I posted a legacy comment about Lance Reynolds and several BYU families got mentioned.
We have the power of the net right here on CC. People posting here live all over the country. Some of you have to know members of these great BYU legacy families. I am hoping our acquaintance has another son - maybe a football player. If their sons have inherited their fathers athletic ability - they will be cougars.
It made me wonder about Lance Reynolds. He could end up with quite a pipeline of grandsons if you look far enough into the future. The Doman's - gotta be some Doman grandkids in the pipeline. Kaufusis. Heimulis.
Anyway, in Sacrament meeting, a new High Council speaker introduced himself . I missed his name. He is Samoan. He told a humorous story of his mother living with her in-laws 10 years with her five children and how by Samoan custom - she was therefore the maid. He told how his son was accepted at Punahou School this year and he tried to commute from the north shore. That commute lasted about a month. That is why they are now living near Honolulu. Everyone from the north shore is related, and he is definitely related to Travis Uale and others. But I got looking at him as he spoke and thought - he could suit up and play linebacker right now - I wonder if his son is a football player at Punahou (Manti Teo, Barrack Obama and Norm Chow's school). Well I know some people over at Punahou and I am going to check this out.
Back to my grandson to be born anyday. His dad is 6'5" and several of his siblings have played college level and Olympic level sports. My son-in-law played high school football with Ben Olsen, but a knee injury kept him from playing college football. Maybe someday my grandson will play for BYU. We all have our dreams.
But please share any inside info any of you may have about children or grandchildren of the great BYU players that might be in diapers now but hitting the field in 2020 or 2030. Young, McMahon, Detmer, Cahoon - speaking of that - Bart Oates usually visits my ward in Hawaii the week of the Pro Bowl. He has a son that was approaching college age.
