Where are the Press Releases?

Anae OC or co OC at AZ press release to follow - I have never seen one. Did one ever come? Is he OC or Co OC or still just a rumor. I saw official words that he was coming to AZ, but those official words said exact details would be announced later, possibly with other changes.



Chow fired at UCLA. I have seen newspaper articles speculating that he would be let go and / or has been let go. I have not seen any press release that he was fired or that he quit. I saw articles speculating that he would be OC at SDSU or Utah. I have not seen Press Releases to indicate either of these.



Then came the rumors and articles suggesting ARod was headed to BYU as a position coach. Even Ute Fans believe it. I have seen no press release that he is out at Utah or in at BYU.



Joe Dupaix. It seems like a done deal from everything being posted. I haven't see any official press release, though.



Crowton out at LSU. I have not seen a press release stating this although I have seen articles saying it is likely. Crowton hired at some East Coast school that starts with M - can't remember which one. I have seen no press release.



Lance Ryenolds staying or taking an administrative job? Apparently he was taking recruits around last weekend. Same for Our O/L coach - Weber. Higgins?? Did Higgins get to take any recruits around???



Has any of this stuff every actually been formally announced? This is driving me nuts. It would be nice to get this all resolved so I can focus on the #10 and rising BYU Basketball team while I wait for the, likely very exciting and fun to watch, 2011 BYU football team.



BTW - Basketball is so exciting for some fans right now that my son just got offered a coveted internship with Arthur Young - they said he could start Jan 24, 31, or Feb 7 - but it ends April 15th in all cases. He wants to start Feb 7 - does not want to miss the SDSU game in the MAC. He almost turned down the internship altogether hoping he could get one next summer - because he does not want to miss one home game.



If you are anywhere near a BYU basketball game - home or away - go see it. It will be a real treat. Except for the UCLA game I went to. That one sucked.

I'm wondering how all the BYU info is leaking and yet no official pressers. Bronco has to be PO'd unless this is strategic leakage to grease the wheels. The only thing official from BYU has been that RA resigned and BD was promoted to his old position. Then at the same time, the Poppinga hire for the position that was vacant on the D. That's all that official, but many, many rumors.

Same with Arizona and UCLA and Utah and LSU - maybe BYU has set another trend, leak word out that certain coaches are about to be fired, offer them a chance to quit and give a window of time for them to find something and quit, then no firing and no buying out of their contracts or provision of severance pay. Win Win I guess, but drives us fans nuts.

I'm not sure they do press releases when they fire someone.

They did for Hill and when Anae resigned (it could be possible if another coach moves on that they are given the opportunity to resign as well).

A google search - Norm Chow Fired - turns up a number of speculative articles including LA Times.



Here is the gist of what appears to be based on leaks by someone "in the know" but of course "not authorized to speak or be quoted"



Chow is out as OC. The 49ers OC has been interviewed, but not yet offered - because UCLA wants Chow to quit first. Chow won't quit yet, because he has a recent 2-year contract extension worth $1M ($500K per year roughly). If he is fired, he gets $1M. If he quits, he gets notta - as in notta darn thing - zippo- zero. He can't afford to quit and UCLA doesn't want to pay $1M. But slick Rick wants to get rid of Chow. Chow is in the drivers seat on the money - he knows he is almost certainly going to get fired or demoted if he waits it out but he gets $1M either way.



He would probably rather leave than take a demotion or work for someone that wants him gone. He can afford to go wherever he wants or retire if fired, because he will get $1M minus what the new school pays him. But if he quits before being fired, he would get zip from UCLA and only get what the new school pays him. So, again, he cannot afford to quit.



UCLA pays him $500K per year or so. The highest paid assistant coach at Utah gets $170K or about 1/3. Makes you wonder how Utah will compete in the PAC. Kyle is likely lobbying for salary increases for himself and his assistants.



Anyway, look for UCLA and Norm to agree for Norm to quit but quietly get paid $750K to leave and then the pressers announcing his resignation at UCLA and hiring at Utah or SDSU will roll out and then we will see what ARod does and maybe it will become clearer what is taking Bronco so long. Meanwhile, if a BCS program offers Chow $500K - unlikely at this stage of his career, he will be gone from UCLA in 60 seconds and settle with UCLA for a much smaller severance arrangement.



According to the LA articles, quoting Ute sports coverage and blogs, Ute fans are ecstatic to get Norm back in Red (he played there).



If this plays out this way - I will probably come back and pat myself on the back. If not, maybe I will just hope everyone forgets I brought it up.

This clears up the question that was left lingering by the previous material announced by Arizona where they said he was hired but left his role unclear and to be announced later. It was unclear as to whether he was OC or Co-OC or neither. He is apparently a OL position coach and running game coordinator - whatever that is. Previous articles speculated that he would be OC because one Co OC had left and there were thoughts that Anae would be CO OC or OC fully with the other Co OC guy demoted or gone. Well - Litrell got promoted to sole OC and Anae is Running Game coordinator. Maybe that delayed announcement was for face saving purposes.

The next day, Brett Pyne sent an email to all the local media outlets: "Any reports that BYU football coaches have been released from the staff are inaccurate. BYU head football coach Bronco Mendenhall has begun the evaluation process of the recently completed season. As part of the process, Mendenhall met with offensive coaches and indicated a restructuring of the offensive staff is being evaluated. Mendenhall told the coaches this includes possible changes in assignments and personnel. The review will continue after the holidays and has no specific timetable."



So, BYU has already put out an official statement that no one has been fired and that there is just an evaluation going on. The DNews even went back on the online version and changed the headline in the Harmon piece to "Offensive Staff Could Be Overhauled."



The only press release we'll get about Higgins, Weber, or Reynolds will be to tell us they are gone. Until that point, they are on the staff, so no press release is needed.

Exactly how I understood everything that has happened. Anae is the only person that has "left" so far. We'll see if anyone else "leaves" which would open the door to some additional hires.

Last time I checked, it was standard procedure to put out a Press Release only when there was news to report. With that in mind, I guess BYU thought it was time to feed the trolls who like to rake mud over nothing and try to continually find fault with Bronco, then act like BYU fan.

I am not going to resort to trading name calling with you. Your disrespect is hardly necessary. Try being objective - it's not that bad. On balance, I think you are quite aware that I am extremely supportive of Bronco and BYU. Key word is balance. Look it up. Words like never and always lack balance. If balanced comments trouble you, ignore me.



If you didn't read this thread carefully - read it again. You will find that I expressed frustration that Arizona, UCLA, SDSU, Utah, LSU, Navy, BYU, and some eastern school that starts with M are all involved with rumored hiring and firing of coaches with potential BYU ties or past ones with a paucity of official statements and the uncertainty was driving me nuts. Mentioned that it seemed to be a new trend, probably driven by contractual issues. Call it mud slinging on BYU and Bronco if you must - it was quite balanced and positive.



DuPaix is now announced and we didn't have to wait until Tuesday. But we may need to wait beyond Tuesday to find out what his role actually is and what else is coming. That is not being critical - just factual. And it probably means there is more to come. That topic seems to be the most interesting one left right now.
