Norm Chow going to Utah as OC

Rumors are starting up. I do not have any proof. Just wanted to be first to post this surprising rumor. ESPN posed the question how BYU fans feel about it on a tweet over to the right.

Meh. He's done very little for UCLA, which is why he's on the market. Maybe he'll do well at Utah, maybe he won't, we'll see, but this isn't a slam dunk for Utah by ANY stretch of the imagination.

He didn't do well because he's getting old. His game is going to "crowtonize" utah. And I love it.

Looks good to recruits and terrible on the field. Chow is well behind the times and does not know his current group of players.



There is no Philip Rivers, Carson Palmer, Mark Sanchez to make him look smart. The U has no running back, no quarterback, and average receivers.



While it may look good to recruits, Aaron Rodericks recruiting trumps Chows supposed reputation.



While I'd rather have Cahoon or Detmer, Arod is built like Doman and is a strong recruiter and high energy guy. Definately worth a look-see for asst OC.



It also signals that Utah is not looking long term. They're worried (as well they should be) that if they dont' make a splash next season, that they could get a Washington State reputation early and never shake it.

All this talk about Roderick.....do we really want him? What has he really proven that we would want him on our coaching staff?

So I guess that we might agree that Chow doesn't have much to work with at Utah, assuming he is going there (some may not know this, but Chow played at Utah), and that if Chow turns Wynn into an NFL QB - Chow must still be pretty good. If he doesn't - time to retire even though he never had much to work with in Wynn.

Actually sounds kind of like it is long term thinking - make sure you don't start out as one of the dregs of the PAC 12 South, thus killing the long term, get some early momentum, and groom Arod to take over in 2-3 years when Chow retires. Will he be bringing the same pistol-offense he was trying to run at UCLA this year? Nothing funnier than watching old dogs try their hands at new tricks.

I doubt he'll be bringing the pistol offense. At least not initially. That only works if you have a dangerous running threat from the QB, which Wynn has shown he definitely is not that. I expect the traditional Norm offense, works if you have an high-percentage throwing QB, which Wynn is not.

This is a great rumor. Love the intrigue. I could see it - Norm Chow finishing out his career @ Utah for 4 years. I think the Yewts would be wise to have someone on their staff that knows PAC-10/12 Teams. Norm has been in the PAC-10 long enough he does know all the teams - it brings some needed guidance to the Yewts in their 1st season I think.



Finally - I hope Yewtah gets crushed next year. It will bring great joy to me. Just like the score against Boise St. in their bowl game. A devastating & eye opening loss for Yewtah!!! Ha-ha-ha!!!!

Arod is not going to play 2nd fiddle to Chow. And Roderick is 1000 times the recruiter... this is the reason we'd want Arod if Cahoon or Detmer dont' work out.



Chow makes a splash but it's a little late in the recruiting hunt to make a difference, and after Utah goes .500 next season it won't matter.



UCLA might have had one of the most abysmal offenses ever under Chow... don't fool yourself the game has passed him by.

Dick Harmon just tweeted that there is nothing to the rumors that Chow has been fired. Chow is running a recruit meeting tomorrow (Thursday) AM.

InsidetheUtes is claiming it is a done deal via twitter. Fox 13 News just said the same thing. Maybe there is some validity to this.

And utes are excited? Wow, 59-0 is ringing in my ears. I can't wait to beat utah.

the Yewtards are obsessed with making BYU guys their coaches. Look at their entire coaching staff all of them are former BYU guys gone wrong. Now they are all stoked about getting more of our sloppy seconds. Can't say i'm surprised.

So ARod won't play 2nd fiddle to Chow - who will retire soon, but he will play 2nd fiddle to Doman who will retire in 30 years after replacing Bronco in 10 or 15? Ute fans are bemoaning the fact that they have too many inexperienced coaches - so this is a case of the two programs going opposite directions.

According to Utes reporter Lya Wodraska, Coach Kyle Whittingham is expected to add offensive guru Norm Chow to his staff this week. Langi may have considered this an added benefit considering his relationship with Chow. He has an opportunity to start at RB immediately and be in a pro-style offense.



IMO this move might reduce the responsibilites of the current CO-OC Roderick - who was probably looking for some greater opportunities functioning as the OC.
