Michigan and Hoke

I have two buddies going to dental school at Michigan, they are both very upset about the hiring of hoke, saying the AD lied to them about bringing in a big name. I had to remind them that Michigan is a $h!! job. Beggars cant be choosers. And Michigan is most definitely begging right now.

Personally, I think that Michigan just got their man, and most do not even know it. Just like Notre dame might have finally found their right coach, Michigan stumbled into theirs. And all I can say it that sometimes choice #3 might not be so bad, eh Bronco?



Hoke went freaking 12-2 at Ball State, a dead program with facilities worse than what Weber State has. Ok, Ball State. And if it is so easy to win at SDSU with all that talent, why has no other coach done it as well in like 15 years? Seriously, give the man his due. He can coach his players up, is the right mentality for Michigan, has the connections, and best of all for Michigan as of right now, runs a modified spread offense, so can take advantage of the recruiting efforts of RichRod the last 3 years. Add to it that he is a defense guy, and he will get that D better and ride that O.



I think he was the perfect hire for Michigan, even if he was choice #3 or #4.

Ohio State fans are demanding more tickets for games played at Michigan, they love it so much. Michigan will be the utah basketball team of that rivalry.





It's easy to call out the "too early hire's" that won't pan out like fans hope, and I'm calling this one. Hoke will get Rich Rod'd in 5 years. I give him 5 because the first season will go .500 with a bowl, which would be considered good.

I agree... I noted Hoke's similarity in career path to Urban Meyer in the other Hoke thread.



Michigan fans should appreciate that some of the best recent coaching hires by traditional powers looking for a turnaround weren't big name hires. Jim Tressel went from appearing in national championships at Youngstown State to appearing in national championships at Ohio State while beating Michigan every year. Bob Stoops was defensive coordinator at Florida with no head coaching experience until he got hired by Oklahoma. Everyone viewed Pete Carroll as a washup when USC hired him. Even BYU's "settling for" defensive coordinator Bronco Mendenhall is a good example of this.



Time will tell, but I think Hoke is at least a better choice then Les Miles, who manages to lose about a game a year as a direct result of a bonehead coaching move.
