Wilner has BYU at 13 next year

Too bad ESPN's Mark Schlabach doesn't have us in his top 25. You would think they would give us some hype given the new sexy contract we have with them.

If you want good insight on the SEC and the ACC, go to Schlabach. That is his turf. But for a national perspective, ignore him. He is a southern football guy, and his top 25 is heavy on teams from those areas.



Have to remember that ESPN is a huge company, and most guys come into it with their regional biases. Most are from the east as well, so the ones from the west get my attention more. I like Ivan Maisel, a Stanford grad, and The Herd, since he is from WA state and pays more attention to the west. HE is a big name snob at times, but at least gives west terms their due.

It's because he knows the name, knows the coach, knows the QB is back, and that is it. BSU has to replace like 20 starters. No way they are even top 10 next year, save for their schedule.

I don't expect BYU to be on very many pre-season top 25 lists. Perhaps, if we had pulled out the win on the hill, we would show up on some. The good thing is we have some early high-profile games that can vault us into the rankings if we win.

BYU will win their way up, and that guy is known to have teams like BYU not even in his top 25 when they are in the AP top 10.

Actually, a majority of the defense still comes back and outside the two fantastic WRs, 6 offensive starters will return. They shuold be pretty good...perhaps not top ten...but I think they beat Georgia at Georgia and waltz through the MWC, excepting perhaps TCU....Just ruminations....

Herd can be annoying, but at least he makes his reasoning and his bias transparent.

Their schedule is why they are ranked basically every year. There is a lesson to be learned from that. But BSU has started taking the bait and playing good teams at or near that team's crib and that will catch up to them in a year like 2011 - anyone / anywhere eventually bites you somewhere. But they will still do well. I Lose track of when BSU starts MWC and when TCU leaves - but TCU, AFA, SDSU, UNR, FSU will produce a loss or two if / when BSU plays then over the years.

Note that Texas, Oregon State, and UCF made his list of teams considered next in line. So call that top 30. Utah is always a crap shoot. Ole Miss on the road. We should be competitive, although maybe not favored, in every single game - but odds may catch up with us in one or two of these or half way around the world in Hawaii. Let's hope not. Maybe we win them all. We are still undefeated.
