Thoughts from the Huntsman Center

I had the great fortune of attending the BYU game up on the hill yesterday. There were about 20 BYU fans in my group that made the trip. Here are some insights that you might not have seen on TV:



1. The LDS Institute at Utah purchased 2 entire sections and gave out the tickets for free yesterday but the place was still very empty. Of the people that were there I would say that 40-50% were BYU fans. I can only imagine what the place looks like on a non-BYU gameday.



2. The MUSS was pathetic. They had maybe 100 students there. The MUSS featured signs saying "I thought you were independent?", "Utah + PAC10 = :) BYU + WCC = :~( ", and my personal favorite "You only have one player!"



3. At halftime they had "Ute Trivia" up on the Jumbotron and it read something like this, "Which Ute basketball player scored the MOIST points in the 2009-2010 basketball season and how many points did he have?" All of the BYU fans laughed at the "Moist" and then laughed even harder at the answer. The answer was Jay Watkins with 31 points. Jimmer had 32 at halftime.



4. When Jimmer started rolling in the first half and Utah called a timeout all of the BYU fans stood up and chanted "You got Jimmered! You got Jimmered!". When Jackson got his steal to break the record the BYU fans gave him a standing ovation. After Jimmer made the buzzer beater shot the BYU fans went nuts. It was loud and the Ute fans just sat there in disbelief. Towards the end of the game we all chanted "We want 50! We want 50!". Then when Rose took Jimmer out of the game we all stood and chanted "We want Jimmer! We want Jimmer!" We all went crazy when Jimmer got up to enter the game again and the Ute fans booed. They booed every time Jimmer touched the ball after that. We resumed the "We want Jimmer!" chant when he sat again.



5. After the game Jimmer had 5-6 cameras surrounding him just following his every move as he shook hands with the opposing team. The BYU fans congregated behind Jimmer during his post game interviews and chanted "Jimmer! Jimmer! Jimmer!"



All and all it was an amazing experience and I'm glad I went. Best performance I have ever personally witnessed.

Were you behind him during the post game? We were watching, then all of the sudden everyone lookied off to the side and started "taunting" someone putting their fingers down, etc etc. I was thinking that a Ute fan started talking trash, or a player or someone. After a few seconds it was over, then everyone focused on the interview again.

Wasn't it special when every time there was a time out, the MUSS idiots would scream and scream as loud as they could trying to disrupt the BYU huddle attempting their abilty to communcate? While I could hear them from several sections over, I still think they had zero affect on the team's ability to discuss their issues. It just once again cheapens the Puke fan to almost intollerable levels. There is such a lack in class on that hill that it just amazes me.
