Kane Whitehurst Commits to Arkansas

For those of you who haven't seen his highlight videos, take a look. Guys over at tbs are talking about him.

He is not even rated by scout.com and it looks like he has no offers? what is up with that. dude is fast.



Guys at tbs say that he is on byu's radar. These are the type of guys byu needs and should get. under the radar guys with speed. He could do really well at byu. hope they offer him.

I know it's a highlight reel but I didn't see him get tackled once.

good hands, good speed, good moves, sets up his blocks well, blocks down field... remind me again why bronco doesn't really agree with the whole star system? oh yeah, because of guys like this.

are there any schollies left for this class? If there are, BD needs to be on the phone with this kid. If he doesn't have any offers, he'll likely have a chip on his shoulder with that kind of athleticism and would fit the bronco mold. Hope they get to him soon.

Kane Whitehurst (5-11, 172, Sr.) is a versatile athlete (played WR, QB, DB). He has lined up at quarterback and wide receiver in high school. His school Chattahoochee, Duluth, GA (coach Terry Crowder - coach of year) is listed in CLASS AAAA and he was voted on the first team offense as an ATH.



His stats for 2010:

#5 Kane Whitehurst

80 receptions

1,297 yards receiving

16.2 yds/catch

17 touchdowns



Don't know what his time in the 40 is, but he blows by defenses when he gets up a head of steam on kickoffs.



His early favorite schools are Clemson, Georgia, Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt.

First to answer a couple of things from the other posts

1. To tackle him you gota touch him first. :D

2. 40 time is at the end of the video self reported (?) 4.45



The thing I like is that he is already a Cougar! Now we just have to convince him to move up to the next level of being a Cougar!



He and Philips in the slot, could be a great rotation there. Although as I watched it I kept thinking, I wonder if that's what Collie looked like in high school.

His Rivals page tells more to the story. All offers are from lower level D1 schools, like Troy, EMich, Chattanooga and then even Appalachian State. Honestly, he sounds to me like a Cory Gains or Drew Phillipps type. Great athlete in a state where size matters more than many factors, and he is not a huge guy, but has good size, but better speed and elusiveness.



BYU is not mentioned anywhere on either page. I do not think he is LDS, so not sure what chances are, if any, but if TBS is talking about him, means he is on BYU's radar.

his scout.com profile shows that clemson, georgia, georgia tech, and vanderbilt are interested but no offers. my guess is that you are right and size is the issue. these are the type of guys byu should scoop up. if byu offer, my guess is he is ours, unless another school once we offer has second thoughts. hmmm..... troy or byu? that is an easy one even if you are not lds.

We need playmakers at WR (ones who can potentially take it to the house) every time they catch the ball. This kid appears to fit the bill based upon his KO/Punt returns (not an easy task to do) as well as yards after catch or QB scrambling.

Well it would be easy to pick BYU over the small schools unless his family belongs to a Church with strong anti-Mormon sentiment. Some churches sell anti literature right inside their Church. Seen it with my own eyes. Or if some element of HC is a constraint he does not want to adhere too. It will all sort out one way or the other - I love under dogs.

He is still working on his rap sheet, I guess he's not very dedicated.

Current size...he's only 17 so has more growing to do. Father, brother, uncles, and cousins all in the 6'4" - 6'5" range. Bloodline...8 members of his family played at the college and/or pro level in football, basketball, and baseball.



As for offers - 5-6 at present with some new SEC and ACC teams entering the picture. Recently - a high powered SEC team contacted his coach as it is presently a recruiting dead period. The dead period ends Friday or Saturday - more news to follow.



He is the real deal and keeps much of the recruiting info within his family. Things will come out soon - and I too am surprised that BYU and the "Air Attack" hasn't contacted him.



Mention of being tackled...with over 80 catches plus additional rushing attempts this past season - count the plays in the highlight film and you will see that he was tackled during the season.



Kick and punt returns - basically, teams stopped kicking to him after the 3rd-4th game of the season. Those that did paid the price - yes, he is that good. In one highlight - the punt return - was the only team that kicked to him in some 12 games.

Agreed. Has BYU been in contact? If not has his info been forwarded to the coaches (this can be done on byucougars.com in the football section, recruits-referrals. Then none of us who don't know him are supposed to talk to him or it could be a recruiting violation.
