Chris Collinsworth arthroscopic surgery?

BYU forward Chris Collinsworth spent another practice on the sidelines as he nurses an injured knee. Rose says he was hoping to have Collinsworth practice today, "but it's still really sore, so I think the doctor will probably operate on him sometime this week."

Rose has been saying arthroscopic surgery would be a possibility if there was no improvement in the knee. Collinsworth has only played in nine of 17 games so far this season.

As he has played in only nine of 31 scheduled games, Collinsworth would fall within the "first half of the season/no more than 30% of scheduled games" criteria for a medical hardship waiver, were his knee injury determined to be incapacitating and season-ending.

We'll really need him come tourny time though. Our Depth at the 4/5 really suffers without him

he's one of the reason's we've done so much better at rebounding this year. Without him, we've struggled to stay even with rebounds...

We didn't have him for Arizona and UNLV. He wasn't ready and should have been redshirted. It's too bad that Anderson hasn't improved for this year.

I can see the need for Chris, but he was not in shape for D1 basketball this year.

We need C Coll healthy, this year or next. I am all for going the "Apo" route if we need to this year. Rebounding, and that sweet spin move both have to do with that knee (weird, huh? ) and that is why he is on the court. If he can't play, he can't play.

I wish the best for him, and that he and the coaching staff can make a prayerful decision. We need him asap, but we also need him healthy and contributing...

I just hope they can fix him up and I hope rather than trying to push himself so he can get back on the court at the expense of healing, Chris decides to do what is best for his knee.

Yes, we could use him this season. But I only want him on the court if he's 100% good to go. I'd hate to see him gimping through his college career like Meads did.

I heard 4 to 6 weeks. But if he can still take a medical redshirt year that might be for the best.

It may be for the best but our team would have a much, much, much better chance of going deep into the NCAA tournament with him. Granted he probably should have been red-shirted this year but he's got to be on the floor out of necessity. He is leading our team in rebounds per game I believe. Guard play can only get you so far in March. Look what happened last year against Kansas State and against UCLA this year. Against UCLA I believe Noah was still suffering from concussion symptoms and CC's action was limited due to his sprained ankle and we end up losing the game. We lose both Jimmer, Emery, and KC next year so if we're going to make a deep run into the march invitational anytime soon it will almost have to be this year. You don't think both Coach Rose and CC know this??

You're assuming CC will be up to speed and conditioned properly to be effective in March. After coming off a mission and sitting for over two months he won't be nearly as effective. IMO you don't gain much having a 80 percent CC out on the court.

80% CC is still better than 100% Anderson - Didn't see any updates/tweets on CC's status during today's MWC Teleconference. Hopefully we get some good news in the near future.

And, iirc, he has to be unable to play due to season ending injury to be eligible for a medical redshirt. I don't know all the technicalities and I imagine his doctors could try to help argue his case, but do not assume medical RS is an option until you hear it officially.

I agree, plus it's wrong to say he will be sitting for two months. After I had my knee scoped I was walking on the treadmill after a week and gogging after a couple and it should progresses as quickly as he is able and there are lots of activities like swimming he can do to stay conditioned. I know you meant sitting on the bench and there is some game quickness and awareness that is lost but he should be able to minimize that if he stays active. The bigger question is how successful was the surgery? I've seen where things linger and they have to go back for a second round.

Hopefully he is a quick healer and can turn it right around.

Go Cougs!
