No Lee Aguire for 2011

Can anyone else confirm this? I haven't seen it reported anywhere else.

I'm pretty sure TBS' Brandon Gurney reported it as well.

I'm really exhausted of DB issues. Get used to it I suppose since this has been BYUs achilles heel for the last half decade. Drew Philips has speed and is very aggressive, lets put him as an island shutdown corner.

Lee Aguirre (5-9, 204 Sr.)

Aguirre redshirted in 2010 while getting his academics in order. He is expected to return for his senior season in 2011. If he does make it back, Lee will immediately become a candidate to start in the defensive backfield.

In 2009, the former JC All-American from Fullerton College made 13 tackles and broke up two passes. It’s not outside of the realm of possibility that Aguirre could be moved to safety depending on need.



That sounds like he needs to get his academics in order, but it doesn't say he's not supposed to be back.



Some one notes Brandon Guerney from TBS tweeted this as well. I didn't find it in his recent tweets, so are we saying this is something he alluded to some time ago?

I have not seen anything official on this, and just looked. Plus, unless Lee messed his grades up so bad he can't recover, he still has spring 2011 to get things in order for the season. He is not out for 2011 now unless he got booted from school. Otherwise, still a shot to get things cleared up.

C'mon man, it's called a Physical Education major....

"confirmed in the comments section" is a strong description for what I read. He did state it in the comments section, but with no specifics about how bad the grades are or whether it can be redeemed in time for Fall.



No matter how many coaches we fire - recruiting and retaining athletic (fast and strong with reasonable height) DBs has always been elusive. It has always been tough to get them in the first place and tough to keep them obeying HC and keeping their academics up. We have essentially the same isue with wide receivers and running backs - but our offensive scheme, hard work, better discipline, and smart players better compensates for the lack of speed (burners) on offense. ON deffense, we play soft to compensate for it, our line an dlinebackers at times have been able to help compensate for our DBs, but let's face it, when was the last time BYU has had a top 10 defense for an entire season an dhow often has that happend. Top 20 not too often either. At BYU, th eoffense has to carry the defense. In 2010, the offense could not carry the defense, and we got killed early. Even after Bronco revived the defense, and it started to play very well, good teams were still able to beat us deep - our perennial weakness.



We will likley have a decent defense, barring too much injury in 2011. It just isn't looking to be a Top 20 defense due to DBs being typical - pretty good - but not NFL material. That is basically what I am saying. List the BYU defensive backs, especially corners, and even receivers (I know - Austin Colie - so name any others - I know Glenn Kozlowski back in the day - Maybe Mark Belinni - can't remember how he did in the NFL - running out of names) that have ever played in an NFL game. It is a very short list. Line backers and linemen - different story. QBs, OL, full backs, tight ends - different story.
