Dick Vitale names Jimmer as the Player of the Week:

PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Jimmer Fredette, BYU

The All-Solid Gold candidate had 39 points in a key Mountain West win over UNLV. Then he added 22 in a victory over Air Force.

Not sure how I feel about Jimmer being on Vitale's radar. Last player he raved about ended up being shipped off to Europe and we haven't heard of them since. ;)

BYU: The Cougars won at UNLV and at home against Air Force to show that they, not UNLV, should be the toughest competitor for San Diego State in the Mountain West.

Does it also surprise you that Jimmer is good enough to be NATIONAL player of the week, but in the mwc he's only good enough to be CO-player?

not one bit, noticed the same thing and couldn't help but throw up in my mouth a little bit (or maybe that was the bbq corn nuts?). Pretty pathetic for the MWC... they conference is really trying to stick it to byu while pumping up SDSU as much as humanly possible. Just gotta at least split with them, take the tourney and leave the conference with a giant 'California Hello'

Oh yeah, because they barely beat the crawling-Utes and nobody cares about him anyways...

BYU cannot be in any close games with SDSU, UNM or UNLV at the end of the game. If it's within 6 points with 2 minutes left (especially if BYU is behind), I would expect BYU to get zero calls from the officials.

A few years ago, a BYU player (I don't remember which one) dominated the conference all season. The last three games, UNLV's star came on strong and had games comperable to (not better than) the BYU player's last three games. They were named co- players of the year, citing the "great finish" that the UNLV player had! We always get ripped off if they can find a way. :angry:

My thoughts exactly. I was wondering why he had to share the award even before I found out about the national PotW stuff. It's complete bull. Some kid puts up a couple of double-doubles against the weakest teams in the conference and he's in whereas Jimmer freaking unloads against a top 25 conference contender on the road, shoots the lights out, plays all 40 minutes and then plays another 40 later in the week against AFA and he has to share it.

SDSU is awsome, seriously they are the coolest. I love them, they have the best player in the world which is why he is CO-POW. But serisouly what stud, lots of points and boards
