So can we win it next year with ND, Navy and Army as an independent coalition of schools? regardless, not like it really does anything for BYU or the MWC.

but it still does strike a cord for the non-AQ, but very little. I'm just happy for it because we're part of it. Good luck next year MWC! I guess they'll have BSU and TCU and of course the every improving SDSU that everyone on the mtn seems to gush over. At least they won't have Utah to drag them down again.

Some great quotes from the article:

Utah, the conference’s only loser, dropped the MAACO Bowl Las Vegas 26-3 to Boise State.

The Mountain West might look quite a bit different in the years to come.

and in a backhanded slap at the commissioner for not securing better bowl tie-ins

The MWC has won it a whopping four times in the Cup’s nine-year history. No conference has even come close to those four Cup wins -- the ACC (two wins) is the only other conference to have earned the Cup more than once. Suffice to say, bowl season is where the MWC teams shine. The conference has won three of the last four and four of the last seven Cups.

The MWC has won the cup 4 times since 2002. To me, this is just an indication that the MWC's bowl tie-ins are not on par with the level of talent that the MWC produces. If competitiveness were the sole consideration, the MWC #1 should be at least in a 1st tier non-BCS bowl--Cotton, Holiday, or Insight Bowl. Instead, MWC #1 goes to Las Vegas, which I consider a 2nd tier non-BCS bowl.

Since bowls are businesses, finances are just as important as team competitiveness, and I think most MWC schools outside of BYU and Utah struggle to draw fans at bowls.
