John Beck to fight for starting job

Beck says that for the next two weeks, he will watch every offensive snap that the Redskins took this past season, breaking down how McNabb and Grossman directed the offense, how they read the defenses, what worked, what didn’t work and what should have happened instead. His aim is that when the Redskins report for offseason workouts, he’ll take the field displaying a strong command of the offense and impress coaches regardless of who he is competing against for the job.

But of course most impressively of all is the hair.

That sounds similar to what he did after the 2005 loss to Utah. He said he watched the whole game and found 100 different plays and ways he could have run/done differently on that final play to have changed the outcome of that play (INC in the endzone to Mike Reed). That preparation served him well the following year when the same thing basically happened: one play to win it all against Utah. He was ready to make it.

Assuming the Vikings keep the same offensive system, Beck would be a good fit if he can learn to be more efficient. If the Vikings can pick up a decent third-down tailback to complement Adrian Peterson in the backfield, Vikings won't need flashy play from the QB position. And the underachieving defense needs to improve on their 2010 performance. Beck's definitely better than Jackson and Webb, plus his hair fits in perfectly in the State of Hockey.
