From the sidelines

Just got back from the game...Awesome! Sat right behind the Cougar bench and got to see them in action. Just a few thoughts:



1) Jimmer is better when he's tired - at least tonight he was.

2) This team has heart and determination. Everyone was focused , intense and fighting for this one.

3) Jackson was the game changer, he must be back to 100%. Extra credit to Emery for putting up with stupid rebel fans booing him for not getting his contacts in fast enough. They put him up on the big screen while he was trying to get them back in and kept booing his efforts.

4) Kyle collinsworth could be better than Jimmer if he ever learns how to shoot a jump shot and free throws . . . Guess that's why we send them on missions ;)

5) Davies continues to develop and is a more impressive in person than on TV.

6) The energy after this win was amazing. From the players to the coaches to the fans (very few in attendance) to Greg wrubell, everyone could feel this win moving the season and this team up a notch.

7) mid second half and unlv just gets flustered and loses their cool. With 5 mins to go the unlv fans start to file out of the gym - a priceless memory.



Anyway, may have some actual coherent thoughts about the game after I get some rest.

Yep, look how great his brother has been since he got back. Oh wait, he's been injured/banged up all year.

My kidney stone took me away from the game when we were down 10. Good news for me, we killed them and now I will listen to Wrubell to see how this happened.

But i'd love to laugh at them and say ha ha, your team lost to BYU!!

Why? Why? Why do I not get to see this on TV? No disrespect to Wrubell, he called a great game, but without actually seeing unlv fans leave early, it's just not the same.

It was worth paying for CBSCS for that alone. I loved it!

Seeing an empty T&M Center with 5 min still left was awesome! Only games I get to watch this season are the ones playing CBS C and Versus, so I'm not complaining about CBS. I actually had a long conversation with Comcast about how it didn't make sense to me that a channel that they own was unavailable on their cable services. I told them if I had DirecTV I could get their channel. They said, "Well, that's embarrassing." So excited for next season when I can watch the games on ESPN or BYUtv.

I have not had that much fun watching a game in a long, long time. When Jimmer hit that 3 from the same distance as the V in UNLV the whole house went bonkers. That was unbelievable.

Put Trevon's statement about Jimmer "supposedly" being the best player in the conference on top of it being our first victory down there since 05 on top of the fact that I cannot stand UNLV players/fans and it made for one amazing game. Loved it.

BYULV, could you tell why the LV bench got called for that second technical? I'm still curious what they did. They're probably just not used to not getting all the calls their way against BYU.

Oh and, I think it's fair to say that Jimmer will be winning a second consecutive and eleventh total MWC player of the week award come Monday.

I couldn't tell what the T was for, thought it was on kreugar for mouthing off, but not sure. He isn't known or losing his cool, but the whole bunch of them just got completely flustered in the second half. Kruger had been going out on to the court prior to that when fouls were called, maybe it was a build up from his constantly getting on the refs. Ironically, early in the game the refs kept waving coach rose back behind the mark on his end of the court (still on sideline) while they conversed with Kruger on his side of the court, out on the court itself. He got a lot of leeway from the refs up until that point.



Refs weren't terrible this time although they made a few dumb calls and missed some. I do think Jimmer was looking for calls a couple of times when we simple lost he ball or had it taken away. I agree that he doesn't get the calls a lot of the time, but I hope he doesn't develop an attitude that he should get a call every time he loses the ball. I love the guys game, but he did have 2-3 dumb turnovers - no big deal, he scored 39 among all the other good stuff he does so he is easily forgiven.

I'm not saying he will get better on his mission, that was cyber-sarcasm for all those writers complaining about how old our players are.



Also, KC is nowhere near the player Fredette is, but he has certain skills that could make him very exciting in the future. I think he is already a better defender than fredette, better rebounder and quicker. His FT and jump shots are nowhere near the same ballpark, however.

KC can get to the hoop whenever he wants but he can never finish, im a little worried about that. Haws is ten times the offensive player as KC. Although he does play great D and its definitely needed.

Just read in the las Vegas paper that Kruger said he didn't know who on the bench the technical was called on. I guess it will remain a mystery.

Announcers last night said it was on the bench and not on Kruger. No one knew who specifically though.



I thought the refs did a pretty good job. It was a bit physical, but not overtly physical. I started laughing when Jimmer slapped the floor and clapped his hands when he finally got a foul call. There were definitely some missed calls when Jimmer drove to the lane.

The refs called a good game, except for two instances. They called it consistently. They let both teams play tough, physical defense. In previous games against UNLV, it seemed that BYU wasn't allowed to play the same style UNLV did. They were last night.



The two instances I thought they officiated poorly was the elbow/technical. That player should have been ejected and should still be suspended for multiple games.



The other was the technical. Calling a T on the bench is weak sauce. Give it to the head coach. He's the man in charge. It's his bench. He should control it.

I thought calls were uneven early inside - ticky tacky on BYU inside but letting UNLV hack away. But BYU's game moved to a higher percentage of outside shooting and officiating evened out.
