Sounds like it's Doman

Rumors out there say Bronco offered Doman the OC job this morning. Some tweets have brought this up as well. So it sounds like the wheels are in motion and the ball is rolling. FINALLY. Next step is hiring of he rest of the O staff.

btw - here's my reply to anyone that starts the "Doman has no experience as an OC thread" ... neither did Anae, in fact Doman has more experience calling plays than Anae did AND Doman knows his current staff and players and Anae did not when he came to BYU.



Doman has some NFL chops and is a hard core blue goggled recruiter, who knows Utah recruiting like the back of his hand.

I agree with a lot of the things you wrote, but I'm curious about this. What experience does Doman have calling plays? I thought we've pretty well ended those rumors that he had called any plays this season.

I agree with a lot of the things you wrote, but I'm curious about this. What experience does Doman have calling plays? I thought we've pretty well ended those rumors that he had called any plays this season.

According to a couple of current players (via fb) Doman did call plays and Anae was forcefully asked to follow the gameplan in the 2nd half of the season... and I'm sure details of this season will be fleshed out after the staff is hired and recruits are signed to their los.



On another note: there are also 2 kids in the 2012 class who's parents are polynesian and not happy about Anaes firing... hopefully when they see Chow was fired too, it'll take some venom out of the anti-BYU sentiment when it comes to firing a polynesian coach.



Hopefully the few stragglers that aren't ecstatic about the Doman hiring can at least get behind it, knowing that Bronco is.

If it is Doman, I am thrilled for him and BYU. I look forward to seeing what he can do with the offensive reins.



As for discussing other potential coaches, what's the point of having time to run through different options to make sure the choice is indeed the right one???



It helped me learn about other coaches that could benefit BYU sometine down the road should there be an opening.



Other than wanting things settled before the big recruiting weekend, I didn't see things happening this fast on Anae's resignation/Doman's hiring.

Of all the possible coaching options, this one stands to cause the fewest hiccups between administrations. You know Doman is going to bring his own ideas to the table, but he's been a part of the working system for the last few years and won't be trying to put in a brand new system that most other options would want to try.



Still, the whole idea of replacing such a successful coach like Robert Anae makes me VERY nervous.

Actually they have one,remember defensive line coach Steve Kafusi.

I think there;s a good chance that the next RBs coach will be Poly, after Lance Reynolds retires; maybe Mark Atuaia, and maybe as soon as this year if Reynold is relocated as asst-HC and BYU is willing to pay more for a couple higher paid assistants. (mark just finished law school at the Y)



Reynolds has tenure that needs to be respected but other than his sons, paricularly Matt, I don't think he brings much to the table that couldn't be replaced. If somehow keeping Lance = keeping Matt for his senior year then it's a no brainer... give him Cecil Newton type money to get it done ;)



I'd also be fine with replacing Weber for Wong, as long as we don't lose Ryker Mathews in the process, again Weber is good enough that keeping a player like Mathews on board is a wash. If Mathews has a heart to heart with Bronco and will stay regardless, then Wong would be a great choice with an experienced O-line. (Another link to Sua-filo... while the UCLA chains just took another hit with Chow fired).



Not that we'll miss H. Langi (because don't think Langi is much of a loss or a need) USC has a polynesian RBs coach and this makes a big difference.

Mathews has signed his LOI already. He can't change his mind once he's signed, right? He could redshirt then transfer, but he's bound to BYU for the next year unless Bronco grants him a release as I understand it.



Reynolds could be moved to an administrative job much like Bosco was if he is ready to end his coaching career but wants to stay at BYU.

Wong has to be hungry. It would be a great catch to get him as Oline coach and poly recruiter. Much more likeable than Anae.

And I will still stand by my hunch--sans source--that Doman was calling plays and/or at least more involved than most non-OC's--all but at the end of the Utah game ;-)

Actually, Mathews graduated early and signed his scholarship agreement already. Mathews and Sampson both sign on with BYU.

Has there been any confirmation of this yet by BYU or Doman? It would be very nice to have things in place before recruits get too nervous about uncertainty.



I went on a 9 mile hike with someone on New Years Day that indicated he was made promises by a coach recruiting him in the offseason that was no longer on staff when the season started and the new guy had not been apprised of the previous committments.



I had lunch with a player recruited several years ago that said the coach for his position was the recruiter for a different part of the country and thus not the one that recruited him and seemed to give his own recruits favoritism.



I am not saying the perceptions were valid, but competing recruiters will try to fan the flames re such concerns.



The sooner we have names and faces locked and loaded - the better.



BTW - I have always liked Doman as a player and as QB coach and hope the best for him if he is the new OC.

The only reports are tweets from Gurney and Drew. Until Harmon or Wrubell announce it, it is encouraging speculation at this point, but very likely true.

Does Norm Chow have any Polynesian blood as someone alluded above. He did live in Hawaii and graduated from the same high school - Punahou - as Barack Obama, but may not have any more Polynesian genes than Obama. I don't know and once assumed he was part Polynesian because he seems too large to be pure Chinese. Anyone know. He also was not a popular recruiter in Hawaii according to Cougarsportsline way back in the day.



Not particularly relevant as I would be shocked to see him invited or accepting a job at BYU - but curious as someone raised UCLA firing a Polynesian Chow as softening sentiments of BYU firing Anae. Technically, BYU did not fire Anae - but he clearly had no future at BYU.
