So much for the Big 10 and their stellar talent. TCU and Boise St would not have only won the Big 10 this year, They would have won BIG!



Maybe the Big 10 teams should start playing non AQ teams such as TCU, Fresno St, Boise St, and BYU to prepare them for their PANSY conference schedules.

I don't doubt that TCU or BSU could have won the Big Ten this year, but TCU's close game with Wisconsin doesn't lead me to think they'd have "won BIG" against Ohio State.

2. Get props and poll votes based on the false assumption that that tradition carries on today

3. Play and (usually) beat NOBODY OOC, play a few big OOC games and lose most of them

4. Lose in BCS bowls and most bowls vs. quality opponents

5. Repeat steps 2-4 every year

You forgot to add:

6. Play a minimum of 7 home games.

7. Play very few OOC road games.

I just about gaged every time the announcers condescendingly spoke of how it's just a matter of time before the bigger team will wear down those poor outmatched non BC$'rs, and when it looked like TCU was going to win it was well if it wasn't for that missed field goal, or how lucky for TCU to bat down a pass into the end zone when the receiver was wide open because of course we all know the mighty BC$ school should have won. I have to say I'm glad we have gone independent but there is a part of me that would have liked seeing the MW stay together with us BSU and the Utards staying in the mix and see where that would have taken us. Of course as the President of Ohio State pointed out we should have been grateful for the bread crumbs they were kind enough to hand out. They would never admit equality without being forced to.

It helps that Big Ten attendance is better than any other conference except the SEC--that means that people in the region care about Big Ten football, which attracts media and sponsors and generates hype. I can understand why those without a connection to the Big Ten think the conference is pompous and overhyped because the Big Ten doesn't do anything to dispell those perceptions.



But Big Ten fans and alumni are passionate about their schools and will travel far to see their team. I was MSP and ORD on Thursday, and both airports were full of Bucky fans clad in red--it was a disgusting sight.



Conference strength is so cyclical anyway--this year the Big Ten had a bad bowl year while last year the Big Ten was 4-0 in bowls against teams ranked in the top 15.

I hesitate to say this, but this is probably how our critics view BYU. Except for the BCS bowl part.

Yes but last year was the anomaly for the Big Ten. They hadn't had a bowl record like that in years. And it looks like they are back to their old ways this year. Even if OSU wins, which I seriously doubt, it still couldn't be considered even decent. They got owned in a couple of their bowl games and the ones they won were squeakers.



I seriously have to wonder if the BCS didn't secretly mandate that the Rose bowl take Wisconsin (over OSU) to face TCU, thinking that would be the very best chance for them to send the Frogs home losers thereby preserving their system for a little longer. Especially after the rubbish they pulled last year pitting TCU and BSU against each other.





This bowl season couldn't have gone much better IMO (in increasing order of my own personal joy):



1. The MWC once again is on pace to win the best bowl record thing again (don't really care that much about this)

2. The Big Ten, who I hate worse than the SEC b/c they always talk big but never back it up, is sucking yet again during bowl season (about the only time they test themselves against other power conferences

3. Nearly all the opponents BYU lost to or that were bowl eligible have won their bowl games, except or course UTEP and ..., which brings me to my last and most joyous point...

4. Yewtah got embarrassed by BSU after talking smack and being generally classless as usual, and now we don't have to hear anything else about the streak!!



Only thing that could make this any better is for Auburn to win a squeaker over Oregon, TCU to get enough #1 votes to cause a serious stir in the final polls, and down the road the NCAA to finally come back and take away Newton's Heisman and Auburn's national championship.

I always root for underdogs and the team furthest West. I hate BCS and SEC. Generally I like PAC 10 - except Oregon. Your final point about Auburn and Cam getting stripped - may cause me to rethink this for just this 1 time.



I hope both teams stink it up and look pathetic.



Big dilemma for me - can't root for either - will root against both - but who is the lesser of all evils?
