Bowl Observations

Just a few of my observations from the bowl games I've watched (most of them):



1. It is December 30-31st and there are still a bunch of 6-6 and 7-5 teams playing, in fact some of those 6-6 teams play after Jan 1st.

2. There are a lot of receivers who can't catch the football in these games; for all these extra practices, a lot of receivers are really stinking it up.

3. Jake Heaps is a better QB than most of the QBs I've seen.

4. BYU is better coached than most of the teams I've watched. I haven't seen any teams BYU would not have beaten.

5. It seems to me, the later the bowl game date, the more sloppy the play, more dropped passes, more dumb plays, more missed FGs, more missed tackles, lousier football

6. Yes, the bowl season is too long, there are too many bowl games, too many bad teams playing in bowl games

#6 is the only one that matters. There are too many bowl games, and too many teams go to bowls. Even BYU should not have been in a bowl game this year. 6-6 teams should be sitting home. Bowl season should be ending tomorrow but we are going to see bowl games for nearly 2 more weeks. Ridiculous. The "NC" game played on Jan 8th is really stupid. New years day used to be the day you watched all the best bowl games and then college football was over. The BCS has ruined all the tradition of college football. Funny how they didn't want to do a playoff because the bowl game traditions needed to be protected.

The NCAA needs to do two things, right now: 1) Require the last bowl game be held on January 2nd (if the 1st is on a Sunday, and they want to move the games to Monday, then the 2nd allows for that), 2) require that any team who does not win two thirds of their games (8-4), cannot play in a bowl game. This would eliminate half the bowl games, and force the others to play earlier.



I am not going to watch any bowl games played after January 3rd. What's wrong with games being played early?

As a fan of college football, I'll never complain that there's too much college football being played, especially being played between teams that are at least decent. And lest we forget, the rest of the country considers BYU to be one of those many undeserving 6-6 teams...

I haven't watched all the games, not even half of them, but I can honestly say that BSU would beat BYU this season.



The hypocrisy of the BCS presidents who are against a playoff think it's quite already to give teams 15 days to practice, but that an extra game or two that a play off would add would ruin college football. Yup, the season would be too long with a playoff, but not with the bowl system.
