If you support Bronco - I think the BYU Presser makes it pretty clear how Bronco wants Anae to be remembered for his time at BYU. Bronco is very classy. I like his approach. I will miss Robert Anae and hope that BYU will quickly find a way to fill his large shoes. He was a part of our two most successful eras and was directly responsible for developing some of our best players in history and indirectly responsible for the development of others. Only Bronco himself knows how strogly he was steered in that direction - andhe may not have even fully known - listen to Bronco speak sometime about how overwhelmed he was with being chosen as head coach. I have heard him say clearly that he did not know where to start or what to do and sought help from the Lord and received help from friends like Lavell Edwards. You have heard Bronco say that he does not know all that much about offense. He may have relied heavily on the advice of someone else even if it was his choice.



But none of that matters - Bronco has long been on record as supporting Anae. Bronco will likely never say how much pressure he had to hire Robert Anae, how much pressure he had lately to fire Robert Anae, or how much pressure Robert Anae had to leave.



And I will go on record right here - I don't know and I wish Anae well and I hope for a quick and satisfacotry conclusion about all the questions about who will be coaching BYU next year - and will fully support whatever Bronco decides to do as long as it gets us back to 10+ win seasons and national relevance very soon.

As an average Joe fan, does it matter to me who hired or didn't hire Anae? Suppose the Pres. Monson hired Anae, would it honestly make any difference?

Since when have you started to claim that you are an average Joe? If you're average, I must be some flippin radical righ-wing apocalyptic fearmongerer.



Personally I'm glad to know that Bronco flew to Texas and interviewed RA before the presser when he was announced as the new head coach. As someone pointed out, that doesn't say 100% that he was given the option, but I don't think he'd have gone there if he wasn't allowed input. I don't think we'll ever know for certain, but I found it enlightening the article that Dick Harmon wrote.

I think it matters inasmuch that if Bronco had been coerced even in the slightest to hire Anae, that his bungling play calling against Utah, TCU, Boston College, etc. might have been gnawing the life out of Bronco and that Mendenhall had to have the right timing and the blessing of those above him to finally replace him.



I'm not sure we've really solved the mystery and we all know that Bronco won't speak a word of it so now that he's gone, it probably doesn't make a difference, except we're all nearly 100% sure that the next guys are going to be Broncos.



Whether that pays dividends in the future remains to be seen. I think what it does say, is that Bronco hates to lose and that even past losses get to him. He knows he can't be everywhere at once, though he did an excellent job with the D and special teams after Hill was removed and he wants an actual Mendenhall style arm running the offense and motivating his guys.



Anae is not a motivator... try as hard as he might.

(he's also not a recruiter if I haven't hammered that to death yet)



Even Harmons article doesn't convince me that this wasn't just an arranged marriage that Bronco gave in to.
