NCAA Defends its Handling of OSU and Auburn players

Apparently, OSU players got off lighter than normal because the University had not properly instructed them on the error of selling sports memorablia for lots of money....I find this laughable on various levels, but fundamentally does it not encourage schools to play stupid and not instruct their athletes properly? After all, if you do not adequately instruct your players it will guarantee that they can play in a BCS Bowl. What sort of crap precedent is that?



And with Auburn, Mr. Newton can play because he did not know that Daddy was sellings his services to the highest bidder? How unbelievable is that? But again, are we not awarding ignorance? In the end, I guess with the NCAA Ignorance IS bliss

Here's my opinion on the NCAA suspending Ohio State players for NEXT year. It makes no sense. Either they didn't know what they were doing was a violation or they did. If the violations are of a serious enough nature to warrant a suspension if they didn't know it was a violation then the suspensions should be immediate. Either punish the kids or don't. If it doesn't warrant a suspension now, why does is warrant one later?

USC must really be livid now given how severe their punishment was while Auburn and OSU get off with impunity.



NCAA's clout has been steadily eroding since USSC ruled that the colleges' owned the product and not the NCAA. Eventually the BCS programs will split off to form their own organization separate from the NCAA.

And like I said on facebook last week, the NCAA cant' enforce those suspensions if those boys hit the NFL draft before then... (same deal with Newton... he's going to bail and bet your bottom dollar that more info will come out after he's gone)



It's toothless punishment and yes, USC should be furious... but they also should learn a little contrition. Two wrongs don't make a right; the Trojans got what they deserved; OSU and Auburn didn't.

But they promised to come back next year or Jim Tressel wouldn't let them play in the Sugar bowl. ;)

Didn't I say something a while back about private schools being punished more severely than government schools? Could you imagine the punishment if it were a private religious school like ND or BYU? I can just see the losers at the NCAA salivating over it. They'd get the same treatment as SMU.
