Sam Meredith was leaning BYU but is not leaning SDSU.

so far no one I know has actually de-committed but recruits would be wise to at least ask questions.

The BYU coaching staff is stable. The BYU football program is stable. Bronco isn't going anywhere. The offensive philosophy is going to largely remain intact (we're not going to start running the triple option).

In all honesty, there isn't much reason for recruits to be worried about BYU and its "coaching carousel." There are not going to be wholesale changes to the way BYU operates and plays as a football team.

It should also be pointed out that Meredith is related to Anae (uncle?), so that may have a bit to do with the now leaning towards SDSU.

Can't say as I blame him then. If he choses SDSU, then Hoke leaves, but he's stuck there, then what? Bronco isn't going anywhere.

Good luck to him with whatever he decides.

If Hoke wins again next year, there's probably going to be a PAC12 team just up I-5 that could be looking for a new coach. And an up-and-comer like Hoke would look pretty attractive to a UCLA.

Sam is a 3 star TE. It seems that there is not a lot of room on the field for him.

I'd say there's a good chance Hoke gets hired away this year somewhere; SDSU is barely a stepping stone so if he can use it as one, you know he's had a great year.

I've heard chatter that if Rich Rod is let go and Harbaugh wont' take the bait that Hoke is someone they'll interview at Michigan...

while it is true that

That is very true and as long as we are scrapping with silly SanDiego suckers for three star *** saps coaching silliness won't cause us to lose any of our *** and ** class because nobody better than us is chasing any of them.

Now that Jake Heaps has constraints that limit his recruiting activities - darn NCAA rules - even our great recruiters look pretty ordinary in this year where their was apparently a paucity of LDS talent. So here we are mud wrestling lowly SDSU whom we beat even this year for Rbert Anae's - yeah the guy who is absolutely not a factor in BYU recruiting according to our experts - cousin.

How ironic. Keep in mind everyone in Kahuku and much of Hawaii are cousins. Some of them even call me Uncle and I am not Polynesian.

Not defending Anae here - just found it ironic that in this small and ordinary BYU class that we would be wrestling with SDSU for one of our elite *** recruits.

I wish him well as I do wish his Uncle Robert.

Hoke, Anae, and Bronco's mentor on defense - at SDSU - new rumor.

When is the next basketball game? I think they only have one loss and are ranked 16 in both polls.

Mendenhall and Holmoe have been such attention sucks in 2010.

Last time I asked about this class - the answer seemed to be that there were no **** or ***** recruits but just *** that should be ***** because the class is small and we got them early.

My point then and now was - for those posters that keep thinking we are about to compete for a Heisman and a NC as soon as 2011 or 2012 if we get Diman promoted to replace the recently resigned Anae, and snag Detmer and Cahoon.

To do that we need a 2010 class or better every year like the perennial top 10 tema and this is not such a class and is more typical for BYU. Last year was an anomaly. A nice anomaly. But an anomaly none-the-less.

Don't get me wrong. This class is just fine for BYU. It will nit be highly rated.

Sounds to me like you simply don't understand the situation.

Besides, what fans are you talking about when you say that they think someone in this class is going to win the heisman? Please stop making up things to argue against, or include the original argument. I would love to see who it is that thinks one of our small class this year is going to win the heisman.

My further point, and I prefer 2010 problem quite frankly, is that we are wrestling with SDSU over a recruit - not USC, ND, and UW. I would rather have a class so loaded that we lose a couple at the last minute to BCS programs than be wrestling with SDSU.

This is a small class. I hope their us not a last minute ND, USC, or other bum's rush picking off any more.

It seems the coaching questions will soon be answered and this will become a moot point. Stability cannot return a minute too soon and, as always, as long as 10+ win seasons return as the norm, I will fully support whatever Bronco decides to do.

Classy press release about Anae, BTW. Bronco - classy as always.

They think Heaps is going to win the Heisman and BYU is going to win the NC. My point is that for BYU to have that kind of success, Heaps needs a supporting cast on offense, defense, and ST, without glaring holes at safety and tight end that we are hoping get filled. It wouldxalso help him to have a first round NFL RB - experienced of course - better than BYU has ever had.

That takes a few years of consecutive top 20 classes to build that DEPTH. And people get injured. And the teams with depth to cover those injuries, with a little added luck, win NCs.

If this class had a ***** free safety, and a **** strong safety, and the best tight end recruit un the country - well then it would be helping Heaps get us that Heisman and NC in 2012.

But we will have to chase it with a couple if gaps and inconsistent depth.

I think I understand the situation quite clearly.

So you're problem is that SDSU is recruiting one of our recruits? That makes us bad? It's not like we've lost a recruit to SDSU, but that they've realized we recruit better than they do, so they're going after guys we've identified.

I don't see how anyone with any ounce of truth in their body can look at our recruiting classes over the last several years and say we're on par with SDSU. More like USC, Notre Dame, etc.

As for the Bronco press release what release are you talking about? If it's this one http://www.byucougars.com/Filing.jsp?ID=14845" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (which is the only BYU press release about the matter) then yes, it is extremely classy.

That is the one. Cougar Blue tweeted mr a link to it and that was why I mentioned it.

Hawk - I am not in the slightest way suggesting that SDSU is on a recruiting Par with BYU although they are on the rise for the moment.

I thought I was really clear. Let me try again. The BYU 2010 recruiting class, although still not on par with Florida, ND, USC, Ohio State, etc. typical classes, was by far the best class BYU has ever had and thus was a pleasant anomaly for us. The BYU 2011 class does not measure up to the 2010 class in quantity or quality. It is a solid, but small class with the typical shortcomings - no likely 1st round NFL receivers, DBs, or RBs.

I am happy with who BYU is and realize that wexwill rarely get those players. To be even clearer Unga and Staley barely made the NFL. Other than Young and McMahon, our best QBs rarely start and less frequently star. Other than Collie, name a BYU WR that stated in the NFL. OL us different. Ironically, our RB that went nowhere with Dallas before Iakland made him one of the greatest tight ends of all time, seems to be despised on here.

I am ok with who we are. We accomplish a lot with what little we have. That is why I try to be respectful if our players and coaches. You didn't hear me calling anyone an idiot or incompetent or undeserving if a D1 scholarship, etc.

I just keep calling for a manageable schedule with 1 for 1 and a little good fortune.

If we lose a recruit to SDSU - we will survive. I would rather be losing a few **** or ***** to elite programs with a class so loaded that it still ended up ranked. But that brings it's own set of problems and I am happy with who we are.

You need to learn to treat the users of this forum with the same respect that you profess to have for the coaches and players. No one has said we had the #1 recruiting class in the country, this year or last. Our recruiting classes have been getting better, ranking very well. Yet even with numerous top 10 classes we still have to deal with marriages and missions, which no other program in the country has to face to the degree we do. But thats not to say that the Cougars can't go undefeated and get to a BCS Bowl game. We came within one win of that in the past few years. We can do it. If you are fine settling for less, that's fine, but you need to get off your high horse in regards to other fans.

When someone posts that they KNOW that Heaps will win the Heisman, feel free to quote that post and tell them that you don't agree. Don't comment on every single topic how we'll never compete with Florida because our recruit class is small, if decently ranked, this year. It just doesn't make sense.

Not even top teams with top 10 recruiting classes regularly have great classes every year--how could byu?

There is an ebb and flow to classes: great class, average class.

Many have mistaken 2009 class as byu becoming big time. Could it be that a few key recruits attracted other key recruits and then quite frankly some recruits who sized up a lot of starting spots available right away and not two years as a junior.

Isn't next year's class already shaping up better than 2010? In # of schollies available and possibly quality.

That's right because our recruiting classes aren't as good as the "big" boys we will never make it to a BCS game or be in the talks for a NC because of all of BYU's 1, 2 and 3 star athletes. BTW how did Utah, Boise and TCU get all those 4 and 5 star recruits? They must be on their rosters because they have been to multiple BCS games and have been talked about playing in the NC game over the last couple of years. Just saying.

BYU's recruiting has been fine, and has been improving. It will get better with BYU's better national exposure starting next year, and as far as BYU having to be undefeated to make it to a BCS bowl game, don't forget what Burke Magnus said, who is ESPN's senior vice president of college sports programing, at BYU's announcement it was going indy. He said he thinks BYU could get into a BCS game with 1 loss, so the road to that goal may not be as hard as it was before.
