Bill Parcells to consult in personnel decisions for 49ers

Who's consulting for the new BYU hires? Or are Holmoe and Bronco so confident in himself that they don't need any help.

Well, I'm pretty sure that Bill Parcels is taken.

What has Bill Parcells done recently. The Dolphins aren't that great. The Cowboys weren't all that good when he left. The Jets couldn't survive the loss of Belichek. Parcells is a tad overrated.

Agreed. Just wondering if Lavell or Holmgren or someone else may be helping.

Holmgren? His ties to BYU are so overblown it's sickening. He spent 1 or 2 years on staff as a position coach. Nothing more, nothing less. And aside from that, Holmgren, while being a decent coach is an awful GM. Seattle didn't start winning until he gave up that title, he left Green Bay because they wouldn't give him the title of GM, and he hasn't really done a bang up job at Cleveland.



I'm sure LaVell has been consulted. If we're looking for information from a former player or coach who has NFL ties, and still is somewhat involved with BYU, I'm guessing Andy Reid or Brian Billick are higher on the priority list than Holmgren, and I don't think they are that high.

Bronco has been given the reins on this one. Completely.

And I'm sure he has discussed this with coach Edwards and other people he trusts.



Bronco isn't stupid and always has a plan working. Usually it works out for him.

You do realize that Parcells will be giving his opinion on who to hire as GM and/or head coach, right? Parcell's opinion is being sought on whether they should (a) hire a head coach who also wears the GM hat, (b) let York keep screwing things up by trying to be team president and GM at the same time, (c) hire a head coach first and then hire a GM you think will match that coach's philosophy; or (d) hire a GM first and then let the GM go out and hire a coach. You can see why a team filling both of those franchise-making positions would look for some input from someone who has had success in both positions. That's a far cry from a head coach hiring his own assistants.

As long as Bronco does his homework first, I suppose I'd go with that. But he made mistakes the last time and it isn't like he'd have a hard time finding people to bounce ideas off of. I'm just asking if anyone knows of anybody assisting in the process.
