Bronco has interest in Southern Miss QB coach/OC

According to Footballscoop.com Bronco has interest in Southern Miss offensive coordinator/qb coach Blake Anderson.footballscoop.com/the-scoop This is usually a pretty reliable site,that isn't to say they have gotten everything right. But there pretty darn good. It does beg the question, if what has been said about Detmer and Doman are accurate then why is Bronco interested in this guy.

I really think there is a relative bevy of LDS coaches who would interested in coming to BYU that we just don't know about. Three or four years ago, did any know that Ken Nuitumalao (or whatever his name is) the head coach at Navy was Mormon? I bet there are lots of up and coming LDS coaches who will throw their names in the hat. Someone may just come out of relative nowhere.

If reports about Detmer not interviewing yet are true, then BYU will need a new QB coach at a minimum. If BYU can offer him more $$$ to be our QB coach, I could see it. Would be surprised if Doman did not get the OC job. If he did not, I would expect him to be leaving. And Bronco and Holmoe won't let that happen. But bringing in a QB coach with some OC experience to support Doman makes sense to me.

It would make sense since they were on the same staff in New Mexico. He coached the running backs.

Who are *legit* OC candidates? Legit = LDS because it puts a guy in loine for the HC job. Legit also = interested and available (even if BYU isn't necessarily interested yet, so let's not include Chow or Crowton).



Consesnus (and common sense) say it is Doman's job to lose.

I'm not even sure Detmer is going to be needed. The OC will likey also coach a position group, like Anae did with the TE (if can stretch the meaning of coach to include how he handled them this year), so wouldn't it make sense to let Doman continue working with the QBs and bring on another non-QB coach?

If I were Doman, I would not want to give up direct responsibility for Heaps development until after he wins the Heisman unless I didn't have confidence that he will win it or at least be in the final three. Whether it meant staying as just the QB position coach or doing double duty as OC and QB coach - I would not give up direct responsibility for Heaps. Now some will say he would still get credit for what Heaps does as OC even with a new position coach at QB, but ask yourself just how much credit Anae got for the development of Beck and Hall - NONE at all.



I suppose If Doman thinks he would carry the team to an undefeated season with a QB coach taking over Heaps development - maybe. But few QB coaches get to try their hand with a 5***** #1 QB recruit in the nation with everyone else on offense returning and a couple of highly touted additions in the wings. This offense will start next year better than they started this year and seem to be positioned well through Heaps senior season - unless Heaps gets injured before we develop a back-up QB. Hint: quit praying for Nelson to switch positions - he may be needed until Lark or Munns get some game experience during mop-up time - ie not gonna be much mop up time the first 5 weeks.

Wow great point Kitic...hadn't even thought about that but it's a very legit possibility.

Given the paucity of eligible coaches for BYU, I would expect Bronco to look carefully at everyone expressing interest. Southern Miss has been pretty good on the offensive side of the ball, so it's not out of the realm of possibility that he might go another direction than what people think he will do. He got a job everyone in the world thought was going to someone else, so I don't think we can say what he will and won't do at this point.



If I was thinking about promoting an up-and-coming guy to a position he had never worked before, I'd hesitate a bit if a proven, qualified commodity came knocking.
