Y 4 EverPicturing this for 2011 makes me giddy with excitement. Is it really almost 9 MONTHS before we get to watch another Y football game?
Picture Heaps throwing the ball to Hoffman, Apo, and to a (hopefully) re-invigorated Jacobsen, and to some improved TEâs, while being protected by a reinforced O-Line.
Picture Juice as the feature running back, with Kariya blocking for him, and JJ catching screen passes and running sweeps. Imagine Phillips returning kicks for TDs on a regular basis, and playing some slot.
Think about some Nelson-specific âwildcatâ packages that will have the added wrinkle of a legitimate passing threat from the formation.
Ponder our reinforced D-Line, with our hurt players back, and with that stud transfer from USC (he's eligible to play next year, right?!?).
Next year, weâll have the deepest and most talented group of LBâs that weâve ever had. EVER. Imagine a healthy Pendleton playing opposite of Van Noy, with Kaveinga and Ogletree clogging up the middle, and Stout and Wagner rotating in. O.U.C.H.
And weâll have our golden-legged kicker back from his mission, who can start booming kicks out the back of the endzone on a regular basis, and can hopefully hit a FG outside of 40 yards.
And best of all, we'll "know" who "THE MAN" taking the snaps is going to be going into spring camp, instead of 4 games into the season. Heaps can take command of the team right NOW, and have 9 months to fine tune routes with his receivers.
In my mind, the only question mark for next year standing between us and an unbelievable season are the DBâs. Who do they get to replace Rich, Logan, and Bradley (not that Bradley will be THAT hard to replace â I think that Eason steps right into his spot just fine). We are definitely going to miss Rich BIG TIME, and weâll miss Logan more than people realize, especially his open-field tackling â and he was a much better defender than people give him credit for â if he were 5 inches taller, heâd have been playing DB in the SEC. Is Sampson ready to step into Rich's shoes? Is Gaines as athletic, talented, tenacious, and strong as Logan? Those are my big question marks. Other than that...look out Ole Miss - you're sitting right in our crosshairs! (just ask OU how that feels!)
