Who would you hire?

I'm stealing this from another board. If you could only hire ONE, who would it be, for an unspecified offensive assistant coach.

I'd hire ty detmer as qb coach and make doman oc.



I still think the way things look that anae and higgins are out and cahoon and detmer are in. lewis just joined the ad to make us money. he will surely be on the sideline a lot more as well going forward.

I voted Detmer because the man just knows football. The reason he was around in the NFL for so long was because of his brain.

I vote Detmer. Can you imagine how great our recruiting would get with Bronco, Doman and Detmer out pounding the pavement, and how much more competitive we get recruiting in Texas?

Cam played offense? Thats new. I would suggest you steal stuff from another board. This is a non-sequiter in my book. Do you want to buy apples or air freshener?

under what scenario would Cam and Ty be pitted against each other? And why is Doman not on there when contextually it would be for OC or QB or TE or LB coach? PLease clarify.

Because Doman is already on the staff. Sorry for the Cam, forget I specified offense when I was adding the options.

Also it's worth noting that Chad Lewis has been hired by BYU to work with fundraising. Lewis says that a time will come when the BYU brand will be better known then McDonalds.

Most likely our hire this year will be Cahoon. I don't think anyone else will be hired. But I picked Detmer because that would be cool.

My choice - if I had a "Magic Wand:" #1 Ty Detmer. #2 Tie - Ben Cahoon & Chad Lewis.

It looks like Chad Lewis has already been hired. Sweet!!!! 8)

You are probably right. Though I think there is a slight chance anae gets the axe and doman gets a promotion.

My prediction is that Anae is let go or magically accepts another job...Doman is OC...Cahoon is brought in as receivers coach...Current receivers coach, Higginson i think, is moved to another position or leaves too. I would like to see Detmer come to BYU, but I just don't think he wants to leave Texas or face all the pressure of being a former heisman winner coaching at his old school. If he fails, we the fans would take it out harder on him than any other coach. I am sure he is thinking he is just fine where he is...that being said...I would kill to see Detmer on the sidelines again.

Maybe Ben Cahoon can teach our receivers how to catch passes. Yeah, I'm still sour on some of our receivers this year who took 8 games before they could catch a pass.

Everything I am hearing says that BYU has 2 coaches to hire and could be as many as 4. Sounds as if BYU will have new WR, TE and OC, and the coaches have already been notified to be given chances to seek out other opportunities. Of course, those open positions could be held by the same person, in particular QB/OC, much like TE/OC was previously. Also hearing things could get shaken up in the training room, but that is more unsubstantiated. And do not forget that midseason BYU gave one LB coach a temporary promo, but either could be made long term, or changes on D could be made as well. Not going down officially until after the holidays, but it is happening, and the ball has started rolling.



And for those watching, Chad Lewis is not up for a job on the FB staff since he just took a job with BYU in development and fundraising. I am sure they plan to leverage his connections in China with his language skills, as he has been doing the same thing for the NFL the last few years. Smart move because getting BYUtv aired in mainland China for free and not blocked could be a massive first step in getting missionaries allowed over there.

Hope any changes there are additions and not subtractions. I think it would be a mistake to lose our most effective strength and conditioning coach of all time.

Omer might be our most effective strength coach, but the guy is too old school and can't coach speed. Our athletes get perpetually slower the longer they are here, but they sure do get strong. As a former BYU athlete privy to Omer's methods, I blame many of our injuries (especially the hamstring stuff) on Omer's refusal to accept new research and do things in an old, inneffective way.
