BYU coach Bronco Mendenhall has said he would like to keep playing games in San Diego largely because of the large Mormon population here. However, SDSU head coach Brady Hoke has said he wasn’t interested in playing BYU because of BYU’s “advantages” in having older, more mature players.

“They need us more than we need them,” SDSU Athletic Director Jim Sterk said in a radio interview last month on XX 1090 AM

Unbelievable. These guys sure have big heads for tying for third place in the mwc for the first time in like ever.

And yet another reason I'm glad we're leaving the MWC. Compare how current MWC coaches and administrators have treated our departure and WCC treated our arrival.



Certainly some of it is sour grapes by the MWC, but I've been surprised at how bitter they are.

I would to see an ESPN brokered deal for BYU to open up against a PAC-12 or Big XII team at Qualcomm every year for the rest of BYU's football independance. They could call it the BYU San Diego Classic. It would be the only college football game that would sell out in the regular season there guaranteed.

I expected some sort of bitterness from any MWC school, but I'm shocked to see them say, BYU needs them more than they need us.



What's with SDSU being so bitter -- arrogant and complaining? All they do is gripe and moan. No wonder their own fans chastise BYU when we play them. It's like the NY Jets. Their issues start with Rex Ryan(in this case, SDSU's President) and work their way down.



I wish I could have seen the faces of these haters when Tom Holmoe announced our 2011 schedule WHEN they all said it couldn't be done OR see their faces when we kept coming out with announcements of the big programs we scheduled with Texas, Notre Dame, Oregon St., Georgia Tech, West Virginia, etc...

I was shocked when I read that article. I think it will be a long time until they are BYU's FB schedule and I'd even be surprised if that doesn't carry over to the BB one as well. They have been so stuckup since BYU took their destiny in their own hands as though it was a personal affront to their program and there was no positive aspects of ever playing each other again.



Someone over at TBS said he heard the interview on the radio and after the AD made the foolish and ignorant statement about us needing them, the radio personality said,



"After the interview was over, Lee "hacksaw' Hamilton said that the AD had no clue what he was talking about. He shared the attendance numbers when BYU is in town and said that a AD with 1 year under his belt at SDSU did not know how important the bridge that he was trying to burn down really is."

I'd be a little mad if I was SDSU as well though, when else are they going to get anyone to come to their games. I can't believe he said we need them. What a bunch of bull. You don't even have your own stadium for crying out loud. Yeah, it's nice to be able to get a game with a team in Southern California for recruiting and what not, but teams in california are going to be lining up to have BYU play them.



SEe ya MWC (is this the same guy/AD that answered "no comment" when asked about future SDSU/MWC contracts?).

Why didn't hoke give the real reason -- that he was tired of losing to BYU.

What he meant to say is that BYU would like a game in SoCal for their fans, players, and an easy win, while SDSU is not interested in losing a game in perpetuity, losing at home, even though it sells tickets. Basically, BYU wants the win more than SDSU wants the guaranteed loss.

No, I believe what he said. I mean think about the advantage our players have! They can't play football or work out for 2 whole years! Even more, they're probably going to get fat from members feeding them all the time. I can't believe we aren't undefeated every year with a roster full of those types of players. It's not even fair.



What coach in their right mind would want their 21 year old players with three years of D1 experience going up against our 21 year olds that haven't played or practiced or even been in a weight room for two years.

I love this argument about us being older than other teams. If it was such an obvious advantage, then teams like Texas, Florida and Alabama would already be doing it... Don't spend hundreds of thousands of dollars on one recruit, just send all your guys to the peace corp for two years. Or make them enlist in the military for two years.

It would be hilarious to play a Pac 12 team in the Q. It would be a win for both schools...well all three. BYU and the Pac 12 school would get a good game a pay day in a ripe recruiting grounds, and SDSU doesn't have to lose.

I think it's funny that he thinks BYU needs SDSU.

That is below the minimum average requirement of 15,000 fans per game in order to be eligible for FBS status. SDSU is pathetic. I would bet that BYU has more fans in LES on gameday then SDSU has around the planet any day of the week.
