I guess the intent behind all of this was to make the Big 10 tougher due to how much they are getting laughed at. Seriously, someone needs to hire me as an image consultant to keep these guys from hurting themselves. FACEPALM! Here's a few helpful hints to get out of this mess:
1. Say it was all a big gag--the whole being called the Big 10 with 12 teams, and being called Leaders and Legends Divisions. It was just a joke. Boy did we have you guys going.
2. Change the name from Big 10 to something else. Here's a small hint--follow conferences like the ACC, SEC, Big East, CUSA, MWC, and WAC that don't put how many teams are in the conference in the conference name--it makes it easier when teams leave or join. Also, if your conference is good enough, people will automatically know how many teams are in the conference. I know its a leap of faith, but give it a try. Perhaps the NAC--Northern Athletic Conference. Or maybe the MMWAC--Mostly Midwest Athletic Conference. You know, something geographic without the number of teams. Or you could do something like Conference USA and call yourself the Great American Athletic Conference. I think GAAC has a nice ring to it, and then you receive no cricticism if you add a team that doesn't fit your geographic name--such as TCU to the Big East.
3. Leave Big out of it. You know what makes you Big? Winning games. Calling yourself Big doesn't make you Big. Winning BCS title games makes you Big. You haven't done too well there. Drop the Big.
4. Division names should always follow a geographic theme--North v. South, East v. West, etc., unless there is a more salient characteristic that separates the schools. For example, you could have an academic vs. athletic division. Northwestern, Ohio State, and Michigan would be in the academic division, and Iowa, Michigan State, Iowa State, Nebraska and Penn State would be in the athletic conference. Scratch that. Just go with the geographic theme--always.
