Poinsettia for 2012

So much for worries about a bowl game tie, right? Worked deals that are better than the MWC since we do not have to share. Just gotta get that brass ring 1 in 5 years or so, and ride that payout in the interim. Other years we are then set.

I think this is sweet. We will probably get to pulvarize the second place mwc team in 2012, if we are not playing in a bcs bowl that is.



This is encouraging that these bowls were that quick to make agreements with us. I think bowls in san fran and san diego are great. Great places to play. Decent payouts that we get to keep all to ourselves as well.

Wonder when the LV Bowl will try to get us. I KNOW for a fact they love us there. Because my brother gets me free tickets to the game everyone year from the tourney director. She was hoping for BYU this year. We sell the place out, and get the bowl decent TV ratings. I think they will want us, but hands are tied.

This confirms to me that BYU is pretty much viewed on same level as Army and Navy, who also have similar agreements with the same two bowls...



The Holiday Bowl is Pac 10 #3 versus Big 12 #5. Once the conference realignments take place, the Pac 12 #3 should be pretty good, but the median team in the Big 12 probably won't be anything special. The Holiday Bowl knows this, yet after consideration they have decided to relegate the independent Cougars to their lower-level Poinsettia Bowl.

Hopefully they negotiated more than the current 750K payout. They will lose money otherwise. I'd rather they play the beef o'brady bowl than play a MWC team.

I bet the Holiday is jealous of the BYU deal.

From what I gather, the Holiday Bowl contracts with the Big 12 and the Pac-10 run through 2013, so we couldn't go there until after 2013 anyway.

All in all, pretty good job by Holmoe and the gang to get us some bowl contracts this fast.

I agree. Looks like we destroyed a conference, used them to fill our schedule and then stole their bowl tie ins. Nice days work. :P

Not thrilled with playing MWC #2 in San Diego, but I hope it's an interesting game against Air Force or SDSU.



It is exciting, though, to see bowl alliances formed so easily into the independence venture.

Too bad this is not for 2011. that would mean we play bsu or tcu. I would love to play tcu next year.

The Poinsettia is not $500k, it is $750k per team. Of which BYU keeps 100%. With the current MWC deal, that is not the case. We get expenses plus a share. This is another reason Indy is better.

Excellent point! We don't have to share bowl many any more. As an Indy, a $750k bowl would yield more money than a $5mil bowl in a conference.

What does BYU get to do with the extra money from the independent bowl situation? Turn it into salaries? Upgrade already awesome facilities? Hand out blue shirts at the gate for the weenies that forget?

BYU might be scrambling, but someone is going to pick up a one or two loss team that has captured the country's attention.
