Texas Longhorn mess - good timing for the Y?

With the Longhorn program losing 4 coaches since the end of the season, including the D coordinator, I think that BYU is getting this team when they are down. Hopefully the team can win next year in Austin, make our record against them 3-0 and springboard that into a great first year of Independence!

Guess it depends on who the new coaches will be, and how successful they will be in getting the players up to speed with their changes. We will have our own transition to deal with, but ours is by choice. Some with Texas was not. I think that Texas D is going to be really good next year.

how funny would that be to be the only team in the nation with a 3-0 record vs Texas?

The Horns have a lot of good talent that will return next year on D. However, the scheme was totally a Muschamp creation and it's anybody's guess whether his successor can do as much with that talent as he did. They won't have the added benefit of bowl practices to get things together, so whoever does come in will basically have spring ball and fall camp to get it together. I just pray that that person isn't Gary Patterson... ;)



Around here a lot of people weren't too worried about the other coaches UT lost, especially with the way the offense performed this year. However, losing Muschamp was big news. He was the appointed heir of Mack Brown, whenever Brown stepped down. His departure leaves a big void in that program. Both BYU and Texas had a lot of issues to fix this season, but the difference is that BYU had righted the ship by the end of the season, and Texas was still headed straight for the bottom. I think that gives as an advantage heading into this game, since it's going to be at the beginning of the season.

Texas does have their QB coming back, and you know they have a lot of talent, but yes, it would be saweeet to beat them in Austin.



Also, Mississippi loses their QB (Masoli). Beating an SEC team and a Big-12 team like Texas early in the season would do wonders for our rankings, team confidence, fan excitement, etc.



The fact BYU returns virtually everyone on offense (1 OL, couple of receivers graduate), and most everyone on defense, and it's likely that some of our best talent has yet to take the field on game day, so I'm excited for next year already.



Ty Detmer had his greatest year as a sophomore, and I look for Heaps to have a great year as well, assuming our receivers can catch the ball.
