Interesting Stat!

Right now BYU is ranked 113th in field goal percentage! We are top 30 in all other major categories. Surprising to see such a huge discrepancy coming from a team that is mostly filled with white boys who can shoot.



Pretty amazing we have done this well while shooting rather poorly. Just wait till we start shooting better! :crazy:



Or maybe this isn't surprising considering we have always been an outside shooting team and never had that dominating presence in the inside where shots are more high percentage.



How do you explain this stat?

We were missing shots, but our opponents have been shooting worse. A week or two ago we were in the 200s in FG%, so we already are shooting better.

We also have a high steals number this year with high rebounds so were shooting 20-30% more shots than our opponents

This is a great sign, it means that we are playing defense and crashing the boards. We are not a team that "lives and dies by the 3" or even "by the 2." We will start to shoot better and our defense and rebounding will remain a strength, making us a VERY good team.

We have been a lot less fast break baskets this year so our shots have been harder.

I was going to say something about this as well. We have really dropped/risen in the fg% rankings. This might be my favorite BYU team to watch to date. :bug:

take away our outliers for high and our low scoring, and there are some awesome trends going on.



Only 10 games, but I like the trends. How's that for a stat over the last 5 games or so?

Well after last night's game we're now have the 87th highest FG% in the nation. What's more interesting is we're 10th in points scored per game and 19th in rebounds. At one point we were 1st in rebounds, back when we were shooting 218th in the nation.



What's this all mean? We shoot a lot. Whereas in the beginning of the season we were missing more an consequently grabbing more boards we're now not missing as much and scoring more.



What's even more telling is the fact Arizona came into yesterday's game shooting %50 and was in the top 10 in shooting percentage. Against us they shot 35%. Basically our defense is awesome this season, which gets me really excited because defense wins championships.
