If you can avoid being blinded by hypothetical stars assigned to 18 year old kids and look at who is putting players in the NFL every single year - we have not out recruited TCU and Utah every year.
And if you can avoid looking at the $5 price tag, a subway sandwich is free. We have out-recruited them according to every major national agency since the 1990's, with only maybe one or two years' exception.

Don't get me wrong. I don't think we have a NC caliber coaching staff. We have a 10 wins against a mediocre schedule staff.
I am just pointing out how naive it is to assume that promoting Doman to OC with no OC experience is certain to catapult us to that level straight away - with no doubts.
agreed and agreed. Obviously we don't want to pull the first guy in off the street... I don't get why anyone jumps to that conclusion. I just don't think that Anae is our best option handling personnel or calling plays anymore. There are better options, and BYU has more money to spend... so just get it done, cougs!

And my main point, especially to the poster above who referred to our schedule the next two years as being soft - yeah - why don't we beef up the schedule when we can't even go undefeated in MWC play with any regularity.
I never said that. Our 2008 schedule was super-soft. We can get it done regularly in the MWC. But we can't get it done against teams with superior coaching staffs - TCU and Utah
Their player development skills, coaching, and gameplan strategies/adjustments have beaten our superior talent that we bring in.

We totally agree. BYU is not good enough to do that regularly. Only TCU is - and I remember beating them un their crib un 2007 when they were ranked 15. It seems like we beat them again after that. It seems like we came within 1 point at one point in time.
No we don't. This is where we disagree most. BYU
SHOULD be good enough to beat them regularly. We get in better talent than they do, they just are better at making personnel decisions and gameplanning around that. TCU's model is to get fast athletes, and teach them how to play positions. Utah has followed suit the last 3-4 years. We get better players, and make them slower. That comes down to coaching.
And it was 2006 that TCU was ranked 15th. We won them by 14. And we beat them in 2007 when they weren't ranked by five points. Since then they have gone to beat us by 25, 31, and 28. In the last 5 years, they have outscored us 140 to 75. And in the last 3 years it has been 101-17. That you - or anyone - can stand by our coaches performance against TCU, or in comparison with what they have accomplished is unbelievable.

But yes - TCU has had a Top 5 team the past two years led by a very experienced QB who can run and throw - but mainly due to a smothering defense that gas been better than BYU ever has had.
A defense that is better than BYU has ever had? I'll give you that maybe... But while getting less talent? How does that happen? Could it have anything to do with coaching strategies and personnel decisions?

Our offense has not measured up to theirs for two years - but the difference is even wider on defense. And it amazes me how many people think firing Anae is the answer to our NC Quest.
Right, and what happened to our defensive coach this year? Oh yeah, he got fired. And for the record, since Bronco took over, our defense has been just as good as TCU's. But, yeah, you're right it couldn't have anything to do with coaching that their offense has skyrocketed past ours the last 3 years...
Moving past Anae isn't the only step, it is just the
next step in the NC quest.

But keep playing a 2008 type schedule and every five years or so maybe we get a BCS Bowl.
Not with the coaches we have - The super-loaded NFL talent we had, mixed with the horrifically soft schedule proved that. All we had to do is beat 2 teams that we should be on par with, if not much better than.
*** DISCLAIMER: *** When I say "coaching" I am not talking about getting rid of Bronco. Bronco's main coaching flaw is that he has been letting inept coaches run the show for too long, in my opinion. If Bronco ruled with an iron fist, a la Patterson or Whitt, things would be a lot different for us now. If Bronco could run the offense, defense, and the team at the same time the last 4 years we would be looking at a few BCS bowls, probably a win, and have an outside chance of a NC slot, with at least a legitimate case for one.
