Ainge's relationship with Jimmer

Danny Ainge was one of the 6400 at the Vermont game tonight. I've heard his name in connection with Jimmer a few times over the last year. What do you make of this?

Wants to help him beat the BYU scoring record?

Thinks he'd be good with the Celtics next year?

Well, Jimmer is sitting at 1735 pts after the win over Vermont and needs 733 more to overtake Ainge. There are at least 24 games left on the schedule but more likely 26 (two games in the MWC tourney and two games in the NCAA tourney). Should they win the regular season championship, they would likely make the tourney championship game and would probably get a 5 seed or better giving them a very good chance of getting to a third NCAA tourney game. But assuming just the 26 games, Jimmer would have to average 28.2 ppg the rest of the way to pass Ainge (with two more games it would be 26 ppg). Not out of the realm of possibility. He's averaging 22.3 right now and it doesn't seem like he's really found his groove yet. I don't know if he'll quite pass Ainge but I bet he'll be close.

Jimmer just needs to knock out 50 on Zona again and get his season avg up

I would LOVE to see Jimmer in a Celtics uni!

Except that PG is probably the last position on the priority chart for the C's in the next draft.

Completely disagree; as late as the Celts will pick in the 1st round, they could easily grab a backup point with top notch shooting skills. (he'd be the anti-Rondo) Ray Allen isn't getting any younger and he's really their only consistent outside threat. Rondo can't shoot, Pierce is very streaky outside, etc.



I think it's fair to say that if Boston had one more shooter at the caliber of Jimmer last year, that they would have won the NBA championship (without one they still got to game 7)



Boston is last in the league in 3 point attempts and 3rd to the last in 3 point makes. They desperately need another shooter and Ray Allen probably only has a 3-4 year shelf life remaining.

I don't think any NBA GM sees Jimmer as a starter in this league for many years to come, but I think several will see him as a weapon.



Being a Lakers fan, I dont' want to see him in Celtic green, but I love the idea of Ainge looking out for Jimmer; just like Andy Reid has looked out for some BYU football cougars. I'd really like to see the Jazz pick him up to learn behind Deron (the Jazz would sell enough tickets to pay for Jimmers salary, but I don't have a lot of faith in Sloan giving Jimmer a fair shake... he has his favorites and he sticks to them, even if it means stunting the growth of his rookies at times)

What makes it amazing is that Ainge did what he did without the benefit of a 3-point shot at that time in college basketball.



What impressed me the most with Danny being at the game was the fact that his Celtics were playing at the same time. That says a lot for a GM to miss his own team's game in my book.

He had his laptop with him so maybe he was catching their game at the same time.
