Week 5 Rankings

Well so far BYU has moved up in the coaches poll from #25 to #21 after jumping Washington, Florida, Texas and Gonzaga who all lost this past week.



The AP hasn't come out yet but I'm assuming we should be around #19 since only Florida and Texas were in front of us out of the four we jumped in the coaches poll. However, Kentucky also lost this past week, but there's slim chance they drop 10+ spots to land behind the Cougars.

They didn't pass Kentucky.

They did pass Purdue for #18.

I guess we jumped Minnesota in the AP poll too and are sitting at #18 now. Kentucky dropped to right in front of us. Rats! So close.

Games this week that will affect BYU's further ascent (assuming no other shockers or upsets though there are some that do present some intrigue):



#14 Memphis @ #4 Kansas

#8 Michigan State @ #7 Syracuse

#23 ND @ #16 Kentucky

#13 Tennessee @ #3 Pitt



Somebody's gotta lose those games it's likely that whoever does drops below BYU if the Cougars are 10-0 after this week with wins over Vermont and Arizona.

Well, #14 Memphis and #8 Michigan State both lost tonight. Both losses were by fairly large margins. I definitely think we'll jump Memphis next Monday but despite Michigan State's three losses, I have to wonder if we'll pass them up. The media just really loves them but at the end of the day, they still have three losses, with the most recent not so close. Three losses represents greater than 30% of their schedule thus far. You have to drop them. If they get some good wins later then you can move them up again but in the mean time, no 3 loss team deserves to be in the top 15. But I'm sure the media will give them a pass and only drop them to like #11.



Tomorrow night, #15 SDSU takes on Cal (5-2), #19 UNLV will face off against Boise State (6-1), and #23 Notre Dames will see if they can keep the #16 Kentucky Wildcats on a downward spiral. Oh, and of course there's that little game in Glen Falls going on. All good things for BYU's computer numbers!

Wow! #10 Georgetown lost to Temple tonight. That is their first loss of the year so I doubt their drop far but they'll inevitably have more once they hit the conference sched. BYU will pass them at some point even if not this week.

Maybe tonight was just an off game for them... but WOW I was NOT impressed at all with Georgetown... as in at all. These guys are overrated... mark my words, they will not finish the season ranked.
