Big Least still an AQ conference?

I just can't get over UConn getting the prize that we cougar fans have dreamed of for years. What a joke. Obviously the Big Least had to get TCU at all costs; it was funny to see them portray themselves as mavericks, going beyond the usual conference restrictions of geography and traditional rivalries. Anyway, given the BL's BCS record (1-8, IIRC), and teams like Michigan State on the outside looking in while UConn gets waxed by OU, what becomes of the Big Least's AQ status? Does the BCS:



1. Recognize how good TCU is, much like when Miami owned the conference, and the BL keeps AQ status, or



2. Recognize how bad the rest of that leauge is as a whole, compared to the other AQ conferences, and strip the BL of AQ status. Of course, with the demise of the MWC, there isn't another worthy conference, so the BCS opts to stay at 5 auto-bids, freeing up a spot for at-large teams (like, maybe, BYU, someday).



Before you say that option two is too radical, consider that Pitt in '04, WVU in '07 and UConn this year are only in a BCS game because of AQ status. In all three years the BL rep was the "last player chosen" in playground parlance. Tell me that the BCS wouldn't have rather paired Mich St, LSU or even Alabama with Oklahoma. So, I am obviously hoping for another at-large spot to be created to benefit the Y, but what do you think will happen?

The evaluation period is only to see if another conference is worthy of being a BCS conference. It is not to see if a current conference is unworthy. The Big East will remain a BCS league.

The Big Least will never be dropped regardless of how bad they are. If the BCS were to drop them, then the BCS schools would become the minority giving the upperhand to the non-bcs schools. Therefore, if you were to ever see the Big Least dropped, expect an announcement soon afterward that the remaining BCS schools have dropped out of the NCAA and are forming their own Athletic Assoc. Having the majority is what has allowed them to do what they currently do. That is why there was a huge panic when TX was thinking of leaving the B-12. It meant a swing of enough schools (6-8 )out of the BCS to flip the power to the current non-BCS schools. As it played out, by taking two (TCU & Utah), they made it pretty hard for it to flip now.

You can call yourselves BCS conferences if you want. Here's what the qualifications should be:

Finish in the Top 10 of the BCS final rankings.



Here's the Top 10 this year:

1. Aurbun

2. Oregon

3. TCU

4. Stanford

5. Wisconsin

6. Ohio St

7. Oklahoma

8. Arkansas

9. Michigan St.

10. Boise St



So the Big 10 gets three teams, and Pac-10 and SEC two. Sorry Big 12 you only get one. Sorry Big East and ACC you don't get any.

tsk tsk tsk, didn't you hear the wise teachings of the OSU president? Those non-aq teams don't deserve it, they are only beating up the poor sisters of the weak and unlike the privileged teams in AQ conferences who have SUCH a difficult schedule every year. :sick:

Yep, I mean look at UConn. They have such a rich football tradition. They've been a veritible powerhouse for decades. And look a their schedule, there's no way a team like TCU could have even dreamed of running such a gauntlet.
