During the Baltimore-Pittsburgh game -- when they give the player introductions of their names and which college they went to.

I swear! When Brett Keisel came up, he said he went to "'The Great' Ohio St."

Am I smoking crap OR did he really say that? :bug:

Haha... I swear he said it! :skeptic:

I posted this in the "pro section" but Pitta should get a lot of PT in this game. Heaps went out with a pulled Hammy in Baltimores first drive.

#88.

I thought Keisel named his high school and finished with a Go Buffs or something like that.

Keisel didn't say Ohio State, he said his High School.

Well :gross: Why in the hell would he name off his high school and not BYU? That's just strange.

pitta just got overthrown. Would have been a 20 yard pickup.

A lot of NFL players do it, it's nothing new or strange, just a fun shout out to their podunk high school somewhere.

I know a lot of people don't agree with this, but I love the NFLs new head to head rules.

I think suspensions are going to start happening. They have to start control this. Your job is to tackle, NOT knock the guy unconscious. No more leading with your head.

I haven't heard this term for a while, but isn't leading with your head called "spearing"? head to head and leading with head have always been in the rules, I think lately the trend has been a lot more defensive players using these techniques and until this year have gotten away with it. So really the NFL just needs to start enforcing its own rules.

I'm not talking about spearing. I'm talking about not watching what you hit. Guys are flying in head first. They're aiming high. They're using their helmet as means to tackle and not their arms to wrap up or feet to get in potision.

They aren't tackling anymore. They're just hitting. It's tackle football not hitting football.

BYU players do this too. Scott Johnson was big on hitting. A lot of concussions on defensive players are because guys aren't tackling, they're just hitting.

Last night when Heath Miller got a concusion. I was shocked the refs didn't throw the flag.

I understand Miller was falling down and the defender could move away from Miller's head, but that defender led with his head and shoulders.

Pittsburg is the poster child right now, and today will say a lot IF Goodell does not fine Baltimore's defender on that hit.

It's a contact sport and played extremely fast in the NFL. It's pretty difficult for the defender to completely avoid helmet to helmet contact at that speed. I agree that when a receiver is straight up or jumping that the defensive player should have no business hitting him in the head. But when someone is running and they lower their shoulder there isn't a lot the defender can do sometimes. Look at the alternative, the defenders could be flying in at high speed into the offensive players knees. A blown out knee takes a lot longer to get you back on the field versus a concussion. Think back to the national championship game where Willis McGahee had his knee blown up by an Ohio State defender who torpedoed this legs. That will start happening a lot more if the defenders are always going low.

I'm sure the NFL owners prefer concussions to blown out knees. The players probably do to. In the long run which injury is worse? I think we are just starting to learn how bad concussions can be.

I think the ONLY way to get defenders change how they "tackle" is to make it cut and dry, black and white. Helmet to helmet is an automatic $50,000 fine or suspension. Doesn't matter if it was intentional or not. Doesn't matter if the player tripped and was falling or got hit. You need to change how you play and be playing at a speed where you can control what you're doing. If you're playing so fast that you're out of control then it's time to dial it back.

I disagree. The money thing doesn't seem to be working. Make it 25 yards or the one yard line for hits inside the 25. If they start losing games because of it coaches will start sitting players.
