UTEP a WAC rival?

Just saw Wrubell's tweet on the side bar. When was UTEP ever a WAC rival?



Weren't they the WAC doormat? Just like everyone else they gave us their best game, but that doesn't = rival.

IIRC, when BYU was in the WAC, UTEP had a great track and field team.

I loved that team--Gary Trost, Mark Heslop, Russ Larson, Nate Call. Does anyone remember the story about Gary Trost saving someone's life by using his powerful legs to extract them from a wrecked car? Man I love BYU Basketball.

I remember watching that as a youngin, and if I recall correctly, didn't that win actually hurt us because we ended up getting seeded against Shaq in the 1st round? Or was that a different year?

I think that was a year or so after. I was living in Florida during the Shaq game but had moved to Utah the fall before that B Ball season. I remember sitting in my home in SLC the night of that miracle Nixon shot. I believe that was the year we beat the Pukes in football 70 - 30 or 35 that previous November. I think we also beat the Pukes in B Ball that year in SLC on a Gary Trost shot in traffic in the waning seconds.



You know, the best part about being old is that there are so many great Cougar memories over the years. So many more to come also.
